Help needed for a woman on a cleaning mission

I am just watching Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners and am looking around my house in despair. It isn't filthy or completely cluttered like the houses on the programme but it so needs a really deep clean. It is a big house (5 bedrooms 3 bathrooms) and I do have a cleaner who does a couple of hours a week and is good but doesn't do any deep cleaning.

I am looking from some advice to help me. So how long do you think it would take to do a really deep clean? Some rooms are sorted but a few would need a declutter as well. As I say 5 bedrooms 3 bathrooms a dining room / conservatory, lounge, family room, kitchen and utility room.
What would you see as deep cleaning jobs and then can you suggest a daily / weekly routine to keep it spotless!!

Please help!

I would say you should start with getting rid of these things. Get a bin bag ready for the charity shop.

Only keep things if a) you have used it in the past 2 years and b) you have a permanent space inside a cupboard/draw where you can put it.

Start with one room, once it has been decluttered then call the cleaner to help you deep clean. Do one room each week.

But why do you need to do a deep clean? What will happen if you don't?

I have never deep cleansed this house and we've lived here 10 years! and we're all perfectly healthy and happy.

We have someone in to clean the carpets every now and then (but he doesn't move all the furniture to do so) and an oven man and a window cleaner.

And that's it! Everything is fine.

Aaarrrgggh I've just watched and have thrown a bagful of clutter out and may well dust before the night is out!

I have actually been diagnosed with OCD but, since CBT treatment, I am much better but my house looks like shit

My advice is (a) spend a day or two decluttering, then vacuum / dust from top to bottom before thoroughly washing / wiping, and (b) don't watch Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners.

am now itching to scrub bathroom

Thanks for the link Spider. I will be printing it off and perhaps adapting it. It certainly makes things seem manageable.

Mintyy - I hear what you are saying but actually I want to do it!

Thank you for the advice Greyhound and well done on taking control of the OCD. I think I may well take your three step approach of decluttering, vaccing and dusting and then washing and wiping.

I have got a few days off soon to have a bit of a blitz!

It will take a day for each room if you are very disciplined. So a fortnight.
