Are steam mops really ok for laminate flooring?

I've always uses a mop & bucket & change the water 4 times as I have a very large area to do. It takes me about 20 mins to do & is so exhausting as I hoover the whole first. I'm just not sure about a steam mop. I'm worried about it lifting the laminate over time. I like the idea of just whizzing over the floor but I keep reading conflicting advice. Does it leave the floor really wet, can you change the microfibre whilst cleaning otherwise the same dirty cloth is going over the floor? Do you have to keep filling up the water? I have seen adverts for H20 mop. Not sure if you have that in the UK.

I got rid of mine, the floor started getting wobbly!

Not sure about laminate, but I know they can't be used on Karndean or Amtico type flooring as the steam degrades the glue holding the vinyl boards down.

If the floors been sealed it'll probably be fine. Click and lock it'll knack it up over time apparently.

you will probably find it still takes just as long to mop as you need to mop slower to give the steam a chance to kill the germs, if that's what you want to do.

I'm surprised you haven't had the edges and corners lifting with mopping, never mind steaming. I would use a damp, not wet, cloth where needed and just hoover the rest.

Get a vileda spray mop!

Kittykat7 · 09/10/2014 15:51

Thanks all. I won't try steam them. I have a Vileda microfibre mop that you squeeze out in a bucket. The floor doesn't get that wet & I live in Australia so it dries really quickly.
The steam mop makes it look so easy but I don't think my floor is sealed so best not to chance it.

I've had no problems using a steam cleaner on our laminate floor. It's a pretty cheap, budget laminate (previous owners laid it) but there are no signs of edges getting funny or lifting. Mind you, I only use the steam cleaner once a week or so, perhaps if I used it every day I'd see a difference.

I've got laminate and years ago there was a broom type thing but the bottom was flat and you put a massive wipe on it. I'm going to see if they are still about. Believe it's pledge sweep and go or something...
