What tog duvet?

That's it really! I need to replace my winter duvet and am just trying to decide between 10.5 or 13 tog - will probably go for Hungarian goose down as that is what my summer duvet is. Our house is well insulated but I like being toasty in bed. I think our last one was 13 but not sure…

What tog do you have??

I think we have a 13 in down also - I like to be as warm as possible on cold nights.

pebbles77 · 07/10/2014 19:37

We have a 9.5 and a 3.5 and they have poppers on the edges to connect them so we can move up to 13 for the really cold nights but have 9.5 on normal winter nights. It works brilliantly.

Thanks - I need to see if my summer one would attach to potential new 10.5 (different brands) - I will agonise over this Grin

I have the All Seasons, so 4.5 and 9.5. We currently have the summer weight still on and will probably put the 9.5 on soon. I have only once used them both together.

Mine have button holes on both duvets and you use ties/ribbons to join them. These are handy as I have put ribbons on my duvet cover and tie to the duvet...it stops the duvet sliding down in the cover

ilovepowerhoop · 07/10/2014 22:03

we use 10.5tog in winter

Vivacia · 08/10/2014 20:45

We have a 10 and a 3.5 I think. I love having two on the bed, with coordinating covers.

FreeButtonBee · 08/10/2014 21:49

I have an all seasons goose down. It's ten years old and I still get into bed every night and say ahhhhhhh. 9+3.5 tog - genius.

choccyp1g · 08/10/2014 21:53

I second the 9.5 + 3.5 but the trick is to have a cover on each one so you can adjust the temperature in the middle of the night.

ellieclarke1 · 09/10/2014 14:44

I like a thicker duvet in the winter. I don't really understand the whole tog rating thing

Saw this blog post on twitter the other day - it recommends going for a winter duvet between 12.0 and 13.5

Hope this helps :)

LadySybilLikesCake · 09/10/2014 14:47

I use a 10.5 but I have blankets on the top too. If I get too hot I take a few off, which works better then it being all or nothing.

petitdonkey · 09/10/2014 15:29

Well, I went for the 10.5 as our house is generally very warm so I thought I can always layer it with my summer weight if it gets really cold. I went for Hungarian goose down from John Lewis - it is so light - I got into bed last night and like freeButton got the ahhhhhh….

Now I want a second set of cotton sateen bed linen…. Was tempted by pure silk in JL but the reviews aren't great.

I love going to bed!!

I found the ideal to be 6 for the winter - the temperature in the room is around 20 - 21 degrees, so any higher is just too much. 4 for summer in our household.

MirandaWest · 09/10/2014 16:53

I'm still in my 4.5 tog one. Get hot in bed (and have the window open). Think I have a 10.5 tog one somewhere....

FreeButtonBee · 09/10/2014 16:58

Oh I am pleased. It'll be the gift that keeps on giving, I promise. There is very little in my life that I love more than having a bath, slathering myself in body lotion and getting into clean pjs and clean sheets. Blissssssss

Lilymaid · 09/10/2014 17:18

I can use the 4.5 John Lewis Hungarian goose down most of the winter - we live in a modern well insulated house. We have scarcely used the 9 tog part.

LadySybilLikesCake · 09/10/2014 17:57

I like heavy and warm. I think it harks back to my days as a child in a freezing house. I used to have to put loads of blankets and clothes (seriously) on the bed to keep warm. I still remember the ice on the windows (on the inside).
