Need a new vacuum cleaner....

My old Karcher has just broken and I need a cylinder vacuum as my house is a 3 storey. From the Which best buys I am trying to decide whether extra money is worth it. Options are:
Samsung VC21F60JDDR at £199. I stupidly didn't buy this a couple of days ago when it was randomly £75 on Amazon. It is now sold out in most places as it's 2200W.
A Miele. These range in price from £120-£400. Top I would pay is £200 but am wondering if the £120 would do the job (S2111)?
I can't seem to find weights anywhere as I would like one which is light. I have carpet and laminate. 3 very messy children! Vacuum needs to be kept on the bottom floor in the garage and carried up 2 flights of stairs. 3 beds, 2 bathrooms and living room with carpets.
Any recommendations gratefully received. Thankyou

I spent ages researching a few weeks ago but found it difficult because of the new 2000w thing. Was pretty sure we wanted a Miele cylinder but couldn't work out the different types. Then I read that the s5 series was the top of the old range. Whereas the s2 series are the bottom of the new range if that makes sense and I remember correctly.

Ended up getting the s5212 from Currys for £150 although it was cheaper by £20 on other websites. I am very happy with it although I haven't really got anything to compare it with!

Good luck

Hi there,
Uprights are much better for cleaning carpets. The rotating brushroll helps remove hairs abd fibres and also lifts the pile so it doesn't get worn. But I do understand the need for a cylinder.
I would recommend a Henry Xtra, Miele Cat & Dog or Sebo K1 Pet. All are relatively light, very reliable and under £200 if you shop around. All 3 have an air driven turbo brush to use on your carpets, so you'll have the brushroll for the carpet and then the straight suction floortool for the bare floors :)
