Induction hobs and stir-frying - impossible?

I have to make a decision about whether or not to get an induction hob for our new kitchen or fork out to have plumbing to get some gas pipes rerouted through a concrete floor.

The induction hob option has many advantages, but the one thing that's making me nervous is the mixed reviews I see online about being able to stir fry on them. I don't want to end up with a snazzy induction hob if it doesn't let me do one style of cooking that we would do on a regular basis.

Does the make of induction hob matter (we are planning on getting Neff). Does the type of wok pan make all the difference - i see that you can get woks with flatter bottoms especially for induction hobs.

But the basic question is can you properly stir fry on an induction hob or is it always going to be a bit of a second-rate job?

Any experiences that people can offer to help me make up my mind?

thanks!

I inhereted an induction hob when I moved house. When I put my new kitchen in I most definitely won't choose an induction hob- they just dont get hot enough for stir fries.

I bought a wok recently thinking perhaps that would work better but its exactly the same- takes ages to stir fry- the meat juices just dont get sealed in and everything ends up soggy and tasteless.

Hoping there is a gas supply near my kitchen somewhere that can be tapped into.

We can on ours but had to buy a flat bottomed wok. Whack the temperature up and it works as well as gas.

Thanks both - so its 50/50 so far - I need more evidence before I decide one way or the other!

We had no problem on our Belling. Super quick and super hot, it has 9 different heat settings. We did buy a Wok that said it was induction compatible (£19). Would never use another type again, love ours.

An alternative if you are considering a wide hob would be to buy a 60cm induction hob and add a domino gas wok burner. Best of both worlds.

Flat bottom induction wok works fine here

I have a stoves and have never had a problem with stir frys. It gets super hot

Induction gets very hot, very quickly, my Bosch one is 3x faster to bring to the boil than gas. I'd never use anything else. I stir fry at least 4x a week with no issues at all.

Right - i'm sold - induction it is! Thanks all!

I have the neff induction hob, and its great, in fact this is the second one we've had (in different houses) . But i can't use my cast iron wok, the surface area touching the plate is too small. so now I just use a frying pan.
