Please help - there is just too much information out there. I don't want to spend more than 100, want it to be bagless and need to be able to clean carpets, wood floors and slate tiles - Can any recommend me a vacuum cleaner ? I have seen Vax U90-MA-R air reach multicyclonic and Hoover Spirit sp2101 which are both heavily discounted - Are these any good? Are the discounts genuine? Are there any others which I should look at ?

The thing to look for when you're buying a bagless vacuum is "multi cyclonic". Forget "single cyclone", this will clog up quickly and require the filters cleaning after every use.

Dyson, Vax, Hoover and Panasonic all offer multi-cyclonic vacuums with 5 or 6 year guarantee's. Be careful though as Vax and Hoover also have cheaper, single cyclone cleaners on the market that are pretty horrible and don't last very long.

The Vax Air range are very good and very lightweight. Low filter maintenance on them too, with the filters only needing to be cleaned once a month, so yes, I would recommend these. The Panasonic EcoMax are good too. Appliances Direct are currently selling them for £92.99.

I'd recommend the Henry. It has bags but they are huge capacity so very rarely need changed. I've had one for a year and I've only had to change the bag once. Typically the suction is better with a bagged vacuum cleaner than a bagless one.

'Tis true but I have no idea why!

Can you increase your budget?

After years of buying cheaper (and some not so cheap) vacuum cleaners I bought a Sebo last year. Best vacuum cleaner I have ever had. It's heavy, yes, but works great. It has a bag - after years of the bagless and constant cleaning of filters etc I much prefer this.
