Cleaning unsealed flagstones

crossandcrosser · 01/10/2014 13:51

Moving into a new house. The flag stones are enormous & filthy, I don't think they've been cleaned for years. I'm sure there's no sealant on them.
Would a steam cleaner do the trick?

Pressure washer is what you need! We have one and it's fab however I saw somebody on a fb buy and sell doing it mobile sort of thing the other day and his prices were really reasonable if you don't have one

Indoor or outdoor? I wouldn't want to be using a pressure washer indoors, that volume of water and pressure near plaster walls and internal electrics Shock

TunipTheUnconquerable · 01/10/2014 14:26

You wouldn't pressure wash indoors, would you? I pressure wash my outdoors ones to get the algae off.

I am wondering the same except I don't want to remove patina and I'm not really sure what the difference is between patina and dirt. I've trashed too many things with my steam cleaner to not want to be very cautious indeed.

I never considered them to be indoor Blush
Only ever heard flagstones as the patio type things outside.
Yeah ignore the pressure washer suggestion if its indoors!

crossandcrosser · 01/10/2014 15:21

Yes, indoor. I was all excited about a pressure washer Blush. They're blue lias stone whatever that is.

In that case, indoor I would suggest the soul destroying and knee knackering but good, old fashioned, bucket of hot, soapy water and a firm scrubbing brush. Scrub each flag individually and dry it off afterwards with an old towel/s.

Thanks Squeezy, that's exactly what the builder said. I was trying to find an easy, magical solution. Bucket & scrubbing brush it is.

Boaty places have a deck scrubber, which is like a big scrubbing brush on a broom handle. It will save your knees. You mop away the mud and water afterwards.

You might find one on fleabay.

I've ordered one PJ. I don't suppose you want to err, come round & show me how to use it? Grin
