Toilet Seat Cleaning

What Ho!

Have a new toilet with nice, shiny plastic seat. It is cleaned regularly but nevertheless, after three years of use, the underside for the shiny plastic seat is suffering from urine splash and is no longer shiny, but matt.

Is there a good way to get it back to shiny? Or remove the matt splodges? Some of the polishes designed for fibreglass may work, but may also cause the plastic to craze.

Grateful for any suggestions. Thanks

Toodle pip!

Rex

I suppose you could try a limescale-removing bathroom spray. If it is thick solid plastic, that came with the pan when new, you have some chance, but if it is painted wood (MDF), probably not.

Avoid bleach, which in time leaves yellow stains that cannot be removed.

The thick solid plastic seats are not widely sold, and are expensive bought as spares from the sanitaryware manufacturer. If you buy a new seat, look for stainless steel hinges.

Thanks for the advice. It is a solid plastic seat designed to fit the 'designer toilet.' Not the sort of shape that one can easily buy as a replacement. In retrospect, that is a mistake, but how often does one need to change the toilet seat?

Will certainly not try bleach. Getting it clean is not a problem, returning it to gloss rather than the 'urine bleached' matt, is.

May be I will try a bit of Brasso.

As an aside, MDF toilet seats are cheap, but MDF and moisture are a bad combination. Don't care how well it is sealed, MDF is nothing more than compressed, solid bloating paper.

Maybe try T-cut which is sold in motorists' shops for removing the dulled surface from old car paint

Duraglit or any brass cleaner, this has worked on my dull bath.
