this is not good. the only time it's happened before is when dp flooded the bathroom & he hasn't this time. can't see anything leaking from the bathroom above. am waiting for the insurers to ring me back. in the meantime i'm meant to be turning the stopcock off, but bugger knows where that is. arrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhh. at least dd is asleep i suppose....

Just to add my plumbing story....

When I was in labour with dd, we went to hospital after 3 days of contractions, but were sent home because not enough was happening! We got home to discover water pouring through the sitting room ceiling.

As I carried on with contractions every 8 minutes, dh phoned 14 different plumbers to try and get them to come out. Then his mum and dad turned up with oil fired radiators (it was November). Then the plumber turned up! Ooh, what a party - not!

Finally, after taking up our bedroom floor, he discovered the same as you Hoxton - a dodgy joint between two pipes.

So glad your pipes were fixed without too much fuss.

did you name your dd after the plumber littlefish ?

Never thought of that Hoxton! In fact, I don't think I ever asked his name. I was so embarrased at being seen by everyone groaning and moaning in a corner!

don't claim on the insurance - they will stick your premium up and it will cost you more in the long run than it would to just buy a new microwave. Save your insurance claims for the big things (hopefully you won't have any of those !).

thanks throkenholt. you're right, it's not worth claiming, i was just over-excited last night!

3 days before christmas last year, water was dripping through the light fitting in my kitchen.

Within a few minutes it was gushing!!

Turned out to be a leak under the bath.

Had to turn off water and electric until help arrived 2 hours later!!!

I was at home with my then 2 year old, other 2 kids were at my parents, and partner who'd been ill in hospital was waiting for me to pick him up!!!

Was told ceiling would take 2 weeks to dry out and would then need new ceiling!!!

Had no light to use as electrics were knackered.

Just as the two weeks were up, my youngest went into bathroom and left the tap on......

Water gushed through yet again!!!!

Almost 5 weeks after first incident, our ceiling was replaced and i finally had a light to use!!!
