I've had a Hetty hoover for the past 5 years and the fucker just won't die. I hate it. It's such hard work, she always get stuck round corners or falls over when I pull her along. She gets shouted at, regularly.

DP is starting a new business and need a hoover so is going to take her to work and has said I should buy a new one.

Does anyone have any recommendations?I've heard good things about Sebo, anyone have one?

I am in the same boat, so will tag along!

Have had my Miele hoover for about 15 years and dread it dying as I love it so much. It is ultra reliable and really powerful and has a very long cord.

My Auntie has the AirRam from GTech. I have used it the Hoover her her house and quite like it. My DM has a Miele too and that's good.

GTech air ram.

I had a meile, very powerful but heavy and cumbersome. Gtech is fab.

I had a look at the g tech, what is the battery life like on it?

Does it have really good suction?

Only had mine about a week but it only ran out of the charge it came charged with after five days.

Suction is good, it tries to eat my rug (not a euphemism!) I am very impressed.

I've had a Miele for almost 10 years and it's been great. Really powerful & still going strong despite being used for things like plaster dust that a domestic vacuum cleaner just isn't designed for.

Can't really comment on whether it's heavy compared to others of its type as previously had a hugely heavy original Dyson. Can say I get the Miele up and down the stairs no problem and I'm fairly small.

Shout out for Sebo and Miele here. Both are very reliable, high performing, easy to use and quiet.

The GTech AirRam's are ok for quick pick ups, but not so good for a big clean. They don't generate much suction and are just sweepers more than anything else.

Floralnomad · 02/10/2014 23:40

Morphy Richards lift away canister uprights - prices range from £99 ( Asda) - £150 and they are absolutely brilliant.

YouAreMyRain · 03/10/2014 10:13

My gtech air ram is more than adequate for a big clean, and I have four kids! It's the latest one and raises the pile on my flat-as-a- piece -of-paper ancient carpet so you can see where it's been.

My meile was 2200 watts and you can only buy vacuums up to 1600 (?) watts now so a new meile would be less powerful and therefore can't be compared anyway.

Tweetinat · 03/10/2014 10:17

got a sebo and absolutely love it - as do the two cleaners I've had who have used it. It's easy to use, relatively light weight, good to manoeuvre and great suction. spent a lot of time researching and this was by far and away the best option for us.

YouAreMyRain · 03/10/2014 11:41

Unless you are going to sell your beloved Sebo to the OP, how will they get one the same now that regulations have reduced the power of vacuum cleaners?

StepDoor · 03/10/2014 11:50

I would get a dyson.

TSSDNCOP · 03/10/2014 11:58

Now I have a Miele which like the others have said is very good. But I'm getting pissed off with it falling over and hiding behind doors too.

So I'm looking at the Bosch cordless - my question is whether the newer tech means they genuinely can perform on lower wattage.
