What solution can I use to scrub untreated wooden floorboards with?

So we've just moved into this big old Victorian house and ripped up all the skanky old carpets. There's lots of grim gooey remnants of the sticky green carpet underlay left on the boards, as well as a week's worth of tradesman grime!
What solution (either homemade or bought) would be best to scrub these boards clean without damaging the untreated wood?

the important thing is that you mop off surface wet, and ventilate it well afterwards, so it does not stay damp.

I would start with a metal scraper and a pair of pliers to get out old glue, carpet tacks and staples, then scrub with Flash.

Thanks, John! I've started with the old tacks and nails, and scrubbed the worst of the carpet residue off with a wire brush.
I'll give Flash a go - I've been using diluted sugar soap on a few boards just to see how it looks, but I'm not sure it's doing much, and maybe it's too wet.

Soda crystals, hot water and a scrubbing brush

Vim in a bit of water and a scrubbing brush do wonders for old wood (I use it on our kitchen table).
