Why does my new hob whistling kettle make the water foamy?

Recently bought a new fancy whistling kettle to go on our new range cooker, but it makes the water foamy and cups of tea taste a bit funky and look like cappuccino. A friend has also recently done similar and hers is also doing it too. Neither of us can fathom it. I have washed it out thoroughly but still it foams.

I boil mine on a gas hob, she boils hers on an electric aga hot plate.

Anyone got any useful suggestions?

I had one and it foamed. You also had to plan that you wanted a brew 15 minutes before actually wanting one as it was so slow! When DP and I moved in together he bought a shiny Duralit one and made me leave Mr Whistle.

Yep ours is slow too. My dh is losing confidence in it and I think we may have to resort to an electric kettle again soon. Sad

We have a stove top kettle... It definitely doesn't make the water foamy Confused

On the other hand, it used to be very slow (6minutes to boil a litre of water). Our solution was to buy an induction cooker, which worked a treat. Suspect there might have been more cost-effective alternatives. Wink

I would guess at there still being some sort of coating or detergent still on there from manufacture. Give it yet another good scrub and a wipe out with vinegar maybe to cut through?

Do you know what metal it is?

my father always said you have to boil potatoes in a new kettle before boiling it for tea.
