How do you clean your floors!?

My steam mop has just broken, literally the handle snapped in two!! Confused

I love the convenience of it, just plug it in fill with water and go, no buckets, mops just stick the pad in the washing machine. But, despite all the hype I've not always been convinced of how well it is actually cleaning the floors. My downstairs is all wooden floor and tiles and I steam it just about every day, I've got no carpets downstairs, so it's basically my hoovering! But still socks are dirty, if I wipe a cloth over the floor it comes away really dirty, so, basically I'm thinking before I rush out and buy a new one can people please share their preferred method of floor cleaning (oh! The excitement!!ð???) and how good you think it is!! I'm
Dreaming of white socks staying white!!! Ha! Fat chance with 2 toddlers and a dog!!

Thanks! ð???

Henry all over. Then e-mop hard floors. No detergent. E-mop cleans but tends to not pick up fluff/ crumbs/ cat fur. It gathers them into a little pile which I pick up with kitchen paper.

I've got a steam mop, it makes the floor look clean but it's really not. Hot water, detergent and a good mop are miles better, hands and knees and a brush better still. However I have a back problem so the steam mop mostly has to do.

I hoover and then use an old fashioned mop and bucket. I am thinking of getting a second bucket as it was a great suggestion on here to squeeze I into a different bucket.

I wash the mop head every single time.

Then on the laminate I use a lavender floor spray and flt mop.

I often get down on my hands and knees and clean the floors if I feel it needs a deep clean and do the skirtings too,

I use a Vileda squeezy mop thingy after hoovering.

About once every fortnight or so I do it by hand too.

Hands and knees every evening, couple of wet wipes and some disinfectant spray.

I got a bissell that's a steam cleaner and vac in one, best £100 I ever spent!

Thanks everyone! Mrs Grumble, how do you wash the mop head, just fairy liquid in the sink? Xx

If I want to get the floors really, really clean I do the following.

I hoover first then old fashioned mop in a mop bucket. I use 2 buckets, one with the floor cleaner and one with clean water. So no wringing out and then washing with dirty water. The buckets have that circular wringer thing on them.

A word of warning though, one of my buckets is a vileda one and is very strong and very sturdy. The other is a cheaper one from the supermarket and it just can't take the same downward wringing pressure as the vileda one.

I don't do this as often as I should as it seems an onerous task!

I have an ecloth mop which I use inbetween. My ecloth mop head has shrunk so I just use a microfibre cloth instead and it sticks to the velcro on the mop.

Right, about this two mop thing, sorry if I am totally dumb but 1 has floor cleaner, 1 has just warm water, I put the mop into the floor cleaner and squeeze out, back into that same bucket??? Then, mop floor and then rinse with the clean water then start again the the floor cleaner bucket??? Is that right??? SmileSmile Thanks!!

I have one mop, 2 buckets. Mop into bucket with cleaning solution, squeeze out, wash floor. Then mop into plain water bucket to rinse out dirt, squeeze mop. Then mop back into cleaning bucket, squeeze mop, clean floor ..

So the plain water is for rinsing out the mop. It's not something I'd done before but my wood floor cleaning/maintenance pack I bought recommended it. It's a right palavar hence why I don't do it often. Smile. But the rinse water is always filthy and the cleaning solution water is still fairly clean at the end.

Palaver.

Pour antibacterial cleaner on floor.
Pour boiling water from kettle on top.
Brush with stiff long handles bristle brush.
Put a washable nappy on each foot using poppers to secure.
Soak up wetness on floor but skidding feet around until the nappies are saturated.
Replace feet with clean nappies.
Repeat until floor dry.
Wash nappies.

I've been mopping my stone coloured tiles with flash and hot water. The other day the kids had spilt some cordial and it had dried on, so I got out the magic sponge - turns out my tiles are actually more white than stone!

I'm currently 1/4 of the way through scrubbing my floor on my hands and knees with the magic sponge (knew those gardening knee pads mother bought me for Christmas would come in handy!) There's a slight hiatus in proceedings as I await delivery of new supply of magic sponges.

LittleMachine · 26/09/2014 20:20

Two buckets when mopping! I'm in heaven that is genius !
