Hello! I'm pregnant after two miscarriages and an keen to avoid using shop bought sprays, bleach etc.

I would be very grateful if those who make and use their own cleaners could share their tried and tested recipes.

I mainly want a multi purpose kitchen and bathroom cleaner, a laminate floor cleaner (could this be the same?) and a toilet bowl cleaner.

Thank you!

There's a company called Mangle & Wringer who make their own laundry and cleaning products using all natural ingredients. The products are based on the home-made recipes of a Downton Abbey type laundry maid who worked in Belgravia. She wrote down all her recipes and passed the on. You can get them from www.plainuseful.com. As well as laundry powder, there's a natural equivalent to a Dettox type spray, tins of kitchen and bathroom cleaner and there's a glass cleaner for windows and mirrors. They're really good at cleaning, contain no chemicals and come in really lovely packaging too! Best of luck with your pregnancy!

All natural ingredients and smell amazing. Esp the bathroom peppermint one.

Use the code A84889 for a price reduction in your first order. You buy the first set which includes the sprayers and bottles, and the rest you order refills that are posted to you. Then you pop the refill into the bottle, add hot water, shake and hey presto - you have a full bottle again.

Thanks- that also looks interesting and cheaper in the long term.

Spray bottle with distilled vinegar - a bit smelly, but a good antibacterial/antifungal cleaner and limescale remover. You can do lots with lemon juice and bicarb too, or just a damp microfibre cloth.
I think you might want to avoid handling essential oils in pregnancy, especially if you are worried, but afterwards lavender, tea tree and citrus oils are lovely to add to sprays, and have antibac / antifungal properties too.

I use ecover and method brands too for convenience, they are lovely. Congratulations on your pregnancy, and best of luck Thanks

I have made my own before; I was just in the middle of soaking oranges in white vinegar when I discovered Splosh so I do have a spray bottle of that which I use for greasy bits but the splosh is wonderful.

I second white vinegar - I add lemons to mine and let them soak for a couple of weeks and a few drops of lemongrass essential oil.

I also make my own laundry powder. I got my recipe here:

E-Cloths work really well, you just need a water mister type spray.
