Condenser dryer and the condensation!

I have a brand new condenser dryer which is great. The only problem is the steam it creates in the room afterwards. The builder is going to get the waste water flowing out into the drain next week so I don't have to empty it all the time. Will this stop the utility room steaming up though? I ask because it is going to be housed in a cupboard but if it's going to create all this steam still then I'd better put a venting brick into the wall. Anyone got any advice? Gratefully received - thank you!

We have a condenser and the whole point of them is there shouldn't be any steam? Is it steamy when you open the door? Are you opening the door too early?

Follyfoot · 20/09/2014 10:22

I'm a bit confused by this. As Letthem says, there shouldn't be any steam. The water in our dryer goes into a sort of sealed plastic box so it wouldnt be possible to attach any sort of drain to it. What model is it?

Letthemtalk · 20/09/2014 10:23

Ours has an option for attaching an external drain, common now

Follyfoot · 20/09/2014 10:24

Ah, that explains that bit, thank you Smile

CecyHall · 20/09/2014 10:24

Ours is really steamy, I thought it was normal but maybe not

Methe · 20/09/2014 10:38

Ours isn't steemy at all and tbh I only have to empty the drawer about once a week.

Have you made sure it is actually draining?

dollymixture123 · 20/09/2014 11:00

Hmm. We have a Samsung DV70F5E0HGW Condenser Tumble Dryer (Heatpump). It does a great job of drying but at the end, as I mentioned, the whole room is full of steam. I find that if i do a big wash, I have to empty the drainer of water every time...it's full! When I say a big wash...it's not that big because we just moved house and I haven't unpacked many clothes and so am doing lots of smaller washes rather than huge washes. But I'm surprised/a bit worried at how steamed up the room is. I have to open the windows for hours to get rid of it. Whilst having the dryer drain into the waste will stop it from having to be emptied by me, I'm not sure it's going to stop the steam issue. Does anyone have a condenser dryer that they drain into the waste and it still steams the room up? Bit of a waste to get a chippy to make a cupboard for it and then watch it warp in a couple of weeks! Thanks for your help....

I don't think it will stop the steam issue at all. It doesn't sound right to me that you're getting so much steam. Are you overloading it? What capacity is it?

dollymixture123 · 20/09/2014 11:35

It's a 7kg capacity and I'd guess I'd never put more than 5kg in it....maybe i should speak to Samsung....

I'd read lots of reviews on condensers before I bought one about this problem so I know it's not just me but I thought for some probably dumb reason that putting the water into the waste would sort it...but now i have the problem i'm realising that that doesn't have much to do with ventilation!

Think i'd better get that air vent brick...

Mmm I agree about speaking to Samsung. Ours is in a utility too, with very little ventilation and there's never been any steam at all...

SwedishEdith · 20/09/2014 12:20

No steam here either so think you have a problem with the machine

dollymixture123 · 20/09/2014 13:30

Oh yikes....thank you for your replies. That's really helpful to know. Will get onto Samsung asap. And there was I so pleased with my dryer...but not if I'm surrounded by mould everywhere!

I also have a condenser tumble dryer with heat pump and connected to the mains drain. I never notice any condensation in the utility room. It definitely sounds as though it has a fault.

dollymixture123 · 21/09/2014 12:35

That's interesting, Sleepytea...I was wondering if it was because it was a heat pump dryer but obviously not...
