Can you invite a new friend round for a cuppa? That always gets my act together!

Or break down what needs to be done into a list, and tick off the items as you go through. I'd start with the washing up/kitchen sink, then toys away and hoover the lounge carpet - they both make a big difference to how things look.

Toys can't go away until dd sleeps. She is a whirlwind and gets things out faster than I can tidy!

So I think I will start with the kitchen

I have a sink (and worktop) full of pots
Dryer to empty
Washed to empty
Washing to put on

I find that taking a big plastic bag and going through the kids toys and ruthlessly throwing out all the broken ones/random bits of plastic always results in a satisfying bag of stuff to dispose of.

Then sorting through all their clothes for stuff that they've grown out of.

But my biggest tip is to get it out of the house immediately. Ideally with a trip to the charity shop/tip this afternoon, but if that's not possible, load it into the boot of the car, so that it is out of the house.

cross posted with you.

We don't drive so we have to depend on others to do charity shop/tip runs for us

However we have a shed I can store clutter in

I do need to declutter older dcs toys in prep for Christmas but I did clothes not that long ago

Ooh I need to sort the house out, have been in a low state this week and the state of the house is directly impacting on my MH.

I currently need to sort the washing, hang the bedding, sort the toys out and get DS2s 3-4yr clothes out from storage and wash them. That's just the start.

I'm visualising how nice it will feel when its done.

EvilRingahBitch · 20/09/2014 08:49

Ooh motivate me please. I need to file away the boxes of paper in the front room - I'll put a Doctor Who DVD on while I do it. And I need to tidy washed bedding away.

Dry washing folded to be put away
Wet washing now in dryer
Another wash load on

One worktop cleared
Pots were done until dp came down and cooked! Argh!

I'm the world's worse person for getting motivated on tidying. Sometimes I use this method. Go in a room and put away five/ten (or any number of things) away or in bin. Go in another room and do the same.
