Henry hoovers

Are they really good? I have mainly hard floors but am fed up with rubbish dyson. All the corners and edges of my rooms are full of dust and dog hair! What I really want is another Miele but can't afford it and a Henry seems a good alternative?

Love mine. My Dyson ended up literally. in the bin and Henry is good value, easy to get spares

gamerchick · 08/09/2014 20:32

I have harry and I love him. I wouldn't have any other kind of hoover Grin

MrsRonBurgundy · 08/09/2014 20:35

I have Hetty and adore her. Have cats and it's brilliant for the copious shedding

TortoiseshellSpecs · 08/09/2014 20:40

The only thing that irritates me about Henry is that he likes getting stick around corners a lot and had a tendency to fall over at random times when his cable jams. Frustrating.

I could do with a rubber bumper for him to stop him scuffing door frames and furniture when he all of a sudden comes unstuck and barrels into things.

TortoiseshellSpecs · 08/09/2014 20:41

Stuck not stick

notnowbernard · 08/09/2014 20:42

Henry is the Builders' Choice of Hoover, I am told

Really long cable as well

I love mine

coalscuttle · 08/09/2014 20:51

What's the difference between Henry and Hetty etc etc?

OP posts:
coalscuttle · 08/09/2014 20:51

I like the sound of builders choice!

I think Henry and Hetty were same when I was shopping a couple of years ago. But Hetty was pink and had eyelashes. So ya know.....

notnowbernard · 08/09/2014 20:55

They're no different, only in colour

chicaguapa · 08/09/2014 20:56

I'm a bit mystified by the Henry love tbh. We have one and an upright Sebo and there really is no contest. The Sebo is loads better and I always have to put the Henry on the high power setting. We use the Henry for hoovering sawdust and it's hopeless at the edges of the carpet and I have to use the flat tool (whose name escapes me!) Confused

LEMmingaround · 08/09/2014 21:00

I love my hetty, i had a meile and the hetty is far far superior. Dyson =shit hoovers

gamerchick · 08/09/2014 21:01

You can't hoover ceilings with an upright though.

Ihateparties · 08/09/2014 21:02

He's good for hoovering but boy do really really actually hate him. The getting stuck, the refusing to move, the seemingly random falling over and don't even get me started on trying to find a good place to store him without bits falling on you if you even so much as look at the cupboard door.

It's true about builders though. Our builder has a ten year old one that he hoovers rubble directly into, no bag. So seemingly he's indestructible as well, which is infinitely depressing to me. He's fallen down the stairs, overheated after being blocked with pine needles (don't ask) and countless other things and he's still here, as good as ever.

Did I mention I hate him?

iwantgin · 08/09/2014 21:02

Ahem... A Hoover is a Hoover brand.

Henry is a vacuum cleaner. :)

Sorry, had to get that out.

I was after a new vacuum cleaner a year or so ago - and the winning brand was Sebo. I bought one and absolutely love it. Fairly expensive, but only about the same price as a Dyson.

This is the model I have Sebo

ReindeerBollocks · 08/09/2014 21:04

Hetty/Henry hovers are wonderful, but heavy.

There are a few attachments which work well and generally it does a great job. We have an Eco one but the suction is strong.

I have a Hetty - it has a pink lid and eyelashes. DD swayed our decision in this matter as she wanted the pretty one...

Btw Hetty/Henry fall under the guidelines of being a heavy powered vacuum banned under EU law. So get one quick!

todayisnottheday · 08/09/2014 21:11

Henry is the best vac I've used - including the two super duper rip off machines my mother has bought from the man who comes to your house like a double glazing salesman (and charges almost as much as new windows too!).

I wouldn't have anything else now. Oh and i can plug mine in on the landing and vac my entire house Grin

KissMyFatArse · 08/09/2014 21:11

I have the dyson animal and he has lasted around 10 yrs and still very powerful. Was looking at the Henry but they don't sound as if they have as much suction power? Is that right?

notnowbernard · 08/09/2014 21:14

Henry has great suction!

Hence being Builders' fave - sucks up EVERYTHING

Lego, Polly Pocket, sylvanians BEWARE

bryte · 08/09/2014 21:17

I thought a Henry was great for vacuuming huge, long hotel corridors when I had a student job. I hate having one for home use. It won't roll over any of the thresholds, it's too heavy to pick up and carry with you as you move, it takes up too much space under the stairs. I usually have to put it on the high setting to get enough power too. I want another Miele which we had before Henry. DH broke it using it for too much DIY mess.

gamerchick · 08/09/2014 21:28

Ahem when I turn Henry on I do the HOOVERING and it'll always be called that.. ' flicks Vs' Grin

Just like a dog hoovers up when you drop grub on the floor.

It'll always be hoovering.

I do love the way it socks anything up.. I've lost many socks by accident.

gamerchick · 08/09/2014 21:28

*sucks

ThursdayLast · 08/09/2014 21:30

Whilst vacuuming today I was thinking about how much I love my Henry.

I simply cannot get on with an upright. God awful things.

When I was a chambermaid I had a James. He was wonderful

gamerchick · 08/09/2014 21:32

I really want George.. George is a handsome beast.

notnowbernard · 08/09/2014 21:32

Good point, how many people do the vacuuming?

And how many do the hoovering?
