Is there any way of softening hard backed, leather loafers?

Have a pair of leather loafers that are really rigid at the back and causing blisters. Is there a way I can soften them?

I have a leather stretcher spray but I'm not sure that will be useful.

Thanks.

Bump. Someone on here must know! I've the same problem. My dad suggested olive oil but haven't tried it yet.

the back may well have a rigid plastic cup in the heel, to help keep the shape. Do you think you can feel something stiff in there?

If they are simply leather loafers, they will be fairly soft and will mould to the feet if you wear them, preferably indoors at first and not walking around enough to blister your feet. The natural warmth and humidity of your feet will help shape them.

I wonder if they are the right size.

My Mum who has worked in the shoe trade all her life, used to put them on the edge of a table, and put a soft cloth over the top of them, and then hammer them, like you would when tenderising a steak Grin it worked though.

Blast them with a hairdryer whilst wearing them

I think the hairdrier works with plastic shoes, not with leather, which shrinks and stiffens when heated and dried.

I did it with some leather brogues and it worked.
