Getting rid of dust after a build

We are coming to the end of a kitchen extension and other work...the house is crazy dusty from top to bottom.

Has anyone got any tips on where to start/how to start removing the dust. And also, how long does the dust take to settle (have only recently realised the true meaning of that phrase)?

I think really a good few months. It improves quite quickly if you dust every few days initially but I've done a few extensions/ major overhauls and the first six months/ year is always much more dusty than subsequent. With the slight disclaimer that I'm a tinkerer and still doing minor jobs that may cause dust in that time.

As the weather is so nice this week just throw open every door and window when you're home and get as much air change as possible.

don't use your domestic vac, unless you are about to bin it any way.

Get a Canister cleaner, with a replaceable cartridge filter and some huge paper bags (builders dust clogs filters quickly, but a cartridge can be brushed clean, and, eventually, hosed.

After hoovering, wet-mop and damp-sponge to avoid spreading the sharp, gritty dust around.

You even need to vac the walls, ceiling, lamp shapes, tops of doors and cupboards, architraves, picture rails, window-frames.
