Can you remove a bleach stain?

McBear · 14/08/2014 10:23

My * mother came down on Tuesday and even though I told her I didn't want any of my house cleaning she has done the bathroom anyway and somehow got bleach type stains on my Lino. She came armed with bleach but she swears she didn't open it. She says she only used my cif floor cleaner (States on bottle that it must be rinsed on Lino. I use it diluted as a spray and she used it on the bath, not the Lino) There are nine red marks varying in size and shade of red.

It's fucked isn't it? If my DP noticed he is going to kill me and her.

What colour is the lino?
Could you colour in the marks with a sharpie?

wowfudge · 14/08/2014 10:44

You can't remove bleach 'stains' because they are not stains, they are areas where the colour has been removed or partially removed, depending on the material the bleach has gone onto.

McBear · 14/08/2014 11:05

Thought as much. Hoped they were stains. No it's bloody black and grey marble effect. I've strategically placed a towel until I can strategically buy a rug.

Certainly sounds like bleach. What about a dark grey waterproof shoe polish? I would be bloody furious!

McBear · 15/08/2014 11:53

Oooh that's a bloody good idea! He hasn't noticed yet or mentioned it. She barely apologised and hasn't spoken to me since. Angry

That's really off. Do you think she was embarrassed?

McBear · 16/08/2014 14:10

It's how she is. Makes excuses instead of admits the truth and plays a guilt trip if she does get caught.

Spoke to her this morning and the first thing she asked was if DP had gone mad. I said it was still hidden and she said thank you. No offer to replace tho.

OP posts:
Icelollycraving · 16/08/2014 14:16

Could you get it replaced whilst he's out?

McBear · 16/08/2014 14:21

I suppose. He cut it all himself tho so may notice at some point.

I'll see if carpet right still have the same one Grin

OP posts:
McBear · 16/08/2014 14:21

It'd involve time off work tho too which would be annoying

OP posts:
wowfudge · 16/08/2014 14:23

Why does the OP have to get it replaced while her DP is out? It's not the OP's fault: she isn't her DM's keeper. For goodness sake tell him and tell him you've given your mother time to own up after her initial denial.

It's very annoying, but in the scheme of things it isn't a big deal. If your DM has a key, get it back from her and only let her in your house while you are there if she can't be trusted. Why anyone would feel the need to clean someone else's home, unless they were being paid for it, I don't know.

Purplehulk · 16/08/2014 14:25

Would a sharpie marker in the appropriate shade work?

Icelollycraving · 16/08/2014 14:48

No,it wouldn't be ideal. Doesn't sound like the mum is going to be of any help & it would save a row between the op & her dp. In an ideal world the mum would have offered to replace but she hasn't.

McBear · 16/08/2014 15:46

She does it every time she comes. It's either my oven or my bathroom that she seems to have a magnetism towards. Ironically, her house is a shit tip.

We live very far apart so she rarely comes down and certainly doesn't have a key.

I think if DPfound out, it'd be a lot of hassle over nothing.

OP posts:
Icelollycraving · 16/08/2014 18:30

Well I think in that case, you may have got off lightly. Replace the Lino & tell her the hassle it's caused. I'd also tell her she is not to 'help' again as it's quite the reverse.

McBear · 16/08/2014 18:35

She's quite the interferer. There's no way she wouldn't 'help'.

OP posts:
Icelollycraving · 16/08/2014 21:52

Suggest you visit her & if she asks,be brutal.

McBear · 16/08/2014 22:09

I am brutal. I'm a horrible daughter at times. Only to avoid this sort of shit tho. Angry

Is the problem here the marks on the vinyl or the reaction of your DH?

McBear · 17/08/2014 04:14

Well both I suppose. The marks are more of a problem. Cause and effect and all that

Won't he notice if you change flooring! Could you use acrylic paint from an art shop? You could try mixing black and white until you get correct shades. Get a small brush relative to marks you wish to cover. Daler Rowney's System Three is a student quality but with good covering power. You might need to cover the red with the titanium white (wait to dry, shouldn't take long) before the mixed grey. It's the titanium white which has the most covering power. Worth a go before splashing out on new flooring. Best of luck.

McBear · 17/08/2014 14:10

Oh god. This is going to turn into massive lie isn't it! Hmm

OP posts:
Icelollycraving · 17/08/2014 14:25

I'd just get the same Lino & ask your mum for a contribution tbh.

McBear · 17/08/2014 14:30

I'm gonna think about it for a bit and buy a rug. It's right where you step out of the bath so could potentially be covered easily. May replace. May just cover.

Oh my fucking god! I will never mention the bleach stain again.

It's DMs birthday and I've let myself into her house (long drive) to surprise her after a day out with her DP.

She has a hugely expensive hand painted image. I asked DD to draw a picture of it and I think she's looking at it (for some reason it's within her reach) and she suddenly says 'mummy, I'm drawing.'

She's only gone and put biro on it. Oh my god! I've scratched it off but obv the paint isn't in it's original condition now. But it shouldn't be noticeable Confused

I feel physically sick. I don't know what to do. This will play on my conscience but will soooo ruin her birthday if I tell her.

What if she's on mumsnet Shock
