Antheas air freshener - Bicarb.

Hi, Does anyone remember the episode where Queen Anthea showed you the air freshener, using Bicarb in a bowl and adding essential oils? Are you supposed to 'dash' the oils straight onto the bicarb, or are you supposed to mix it with the bicarb? I'm on pins waiting as mine is not smelling as yet - I dashed the oil by the way.

Haven't done it myself, but wouldn't think it would matter either way - maybe it just takes a bit of time to percolate around. Lol at 'Mad Anth' .

I might just give the bowl a poke around then, and try and release some fumes.

About 7 drops, the bowl is the same size as the one you would use when eating duck in a Chinese restaurant to hold your plum sauce.

I didn't see that episode. How much bicarb do you put in? Do you mix it with water or just essential oil?

MadAnth · 18/09/2006 10:24

Hi!!
Am off to add more drops, still not smelling.

der

doesnt bicarb absorb odours?

so wouldnt it absorb teh oil smell?

MadAnth · 18/09/2006 10:25

I just filled a small bowl with the bicarb, and added 7 drops of lavender oil. I have not mixed it around or added water - yet.

MadAnth · 18/09/2006 10:26

Enid - Queen Anthea recommended it - as such I am following orders.

JackieNo · 18/09/2006 10:27

Yay - you did it! I like MadAnth. Hope the oils start to work soon - I'm sure I've seen someone on another thread who said that they've done it and their house smelled lovely, so give it time (and maybe if you go out for a bit, you might notice it more when you come back in, iyswim, maybe your nose has got used to it?).

MadAnth · 18/09/2006 10:30

I have added more lavender oil and stirred, I shall keep you updated. I doubt Anthea had this problem : (

I keep getting a whiff of lavender ooh I think its working. Asked the OH what he could smell, and he said red wine...

maggiesmama · 18/09/2006 12:56

does anyone know which essential oils to use to recreate the amazing oil smell in beauty salons? wanted to try it

Lucybug · 18/09/2006 13:06

Hi, I use bicarb with a few drops of lemongrass oil and that smells lovely, especially in the bathroom and downstairs loo!

MadAnth · 18/09/2006 13:08

how much bicarb did you use, and when you put the oil in, did you stir it or just let the bicarb absorb it?

Lucybug · 18/09/2006 13:40

I use about 4 tbsp in a bowl and about four/five good shakes of oil. I don't really stir or anything

CADS · 20/09/2006 20:56

Just seen this and I'm sure it will work out a lot cheaper than what I spend on air freshners every month.

Bicarb and essential oils? Is that all you need to use? How long does the effect last? And what do you do with the bicarb once the smell has worn off? Can you just add more oils to it or do you need to bin it?

Thanks

Bump for the morning ladies.

MuckyAnthea · 21/09/2006 08:30

To be honest, I have not smelt it that strongly since I put some out in bowls in the living room and bedroom - I get a whiff every now and again, but its not as constant as the ones you buy from the shops. I bought some new oils, so am thinking of getting rid of the old bicarb and starting again with a fresh lot. I am a bit disappointed though to be frank.

MuckyAnthea · 21/09/2006 08:31

CADS, the bicarb in my bowls has gone a bit crusty, I am not sure if this is normal. I am going to start again I think, and give it another go.

CADS · 21/09/2006 08:43

Thanks Mucky. Let me know how you get on.

I put one bowl in the downstairs loo and it smells lovely but the one I put in the living room didn't make the room smell at all. Maybe the room is to big.

Hopefully, someone else will be able to enlighten us.
