I've a feeling white vinegar and newspapers are involved, but not sure ...

Would prefer not to use branded potions but all suggestions welcome!!

I thought this was going to be that mad anthea person again, miaou

(Am v impressed that you care about your shower screens! Try microfibre cloths, they make one for glass, use one wet - just with water - then one dry to polish)

LIZS · 17/09/2006 16:27

e-cloth from Waitrose, Lakeland et al

Miaou · 17/09/2006 16:31

I don't care about my shower screens at all Jan!!!! They've had a quick wipe with a damp cloth all the time I've lived here. But since we have to hand the house back in a couple of weeks I thought I ought to find out how to make them look clean so my landlady doesn't find out what an utter slob I am

Try ecover limescale remover. It is amazing. I discovered it a few weeks ago and it got all the scale/smears off.

TooTicky · 17/09/2006 16:33

I think you're right about the vinegar.

Miaou · 17/09/2006 16:34

hahaha, I remember you waxing lyrical about microfibre cloths a while back. I even bought some (!) .... they are still in the packet

I will try that out then!

(and thanks Lizs for the suggestion - are e-cloths the same sort of thing?)

How much vinegar? In hot water?

Ecover, that's an idea .... don't want to buy a specific shower screen product as we don't have a shower screen in our new house.

The ecover is great. i use it on the screen but also the taps, shower fittings etc and it gets all scale off.

Miaou · 17/09/2006 20:40

Thanks tamsino.

Can anyone else enlighten me on the paper/vinegar thing? Am keen to give it a try

Miaou - we have a plain glass screen. I just use some shower gel on a sponge and wash it, whilst I am in the shower. Then rinse with the shower spray. It opens inwards on to the bath, so I can do the 'outside' the same way. As far as I am aware, it isn't treated with any wonder product to keep it clear and smear/waterspot free, but it is lovely.

If there is a build up of stuff on it, perhaps the vinegar would cut through the soap stains, but I haven't tried that.

The microfibre cloth is brilliant for mirrors and windows - prefer that to the ecloth, just can't get on with them, too fluffy!

dislexicicecream · 17/09/2006 21:08

i bought a steam cleaner from woolworths on line £25 and dose the glass screen lovely ,also unblocks sinks ,sterilises the toilet (and everything else) and gets rid of pee smells from DS, i have found sooo many uses for it, first i thought it was kind of gimmicy idea but now i woodnt be with out it,

MrLSG · 17/09/2006 21:31

Every time you shower, finish off by rinsing down the screen/cubicle. Whilst initially it will have limited effect, after a while you'll start to see all the crud is coming off.
Only takes seconds, and a little additional cleaning (wipe over with a cloth to dry) gives the sparkle effect

WishICouldGiveUpWork · 17/09/2006 21:37

I use a squeegey (sp?) after every shower-does away with the need for any other cleaning...

shazronnie · 17/09/2006 21:39

put white vinegar in spray bottle; spray on(leave a few mins if very dirty) and then wipe off with scrunched newspaper.

Miaou · 17/09/2006 21:48

aha! thanks shazronnie - will give that a go!

The buildup is quite bad - a bit beyond the quick wipe after a shower stage I'm afraid

I read somewhere that t cut was really really good for this, bizarly, but apparently it works.

MrsSpoon · 17/09/2006 22:33

Have done the vinegar thing before and it is good but this week tried Kim and Aggie's tip for cleaning windows, a tablespoon of cornflower in warm water sprayed onto the glass. I then gave it a rub with a fluffy microfibre cloth and then polished up with a smooth microfibre cloth (they sell them really cheaply in Aldi, one fluffy, one smooth in a pack for less than £2). It really did the trick.

shazronnie · 18/09/2006 08:08

Vinegar will cut through limescale and soap scum. I think the cornflour and warm water is better on regular dirt!

Miaou · 18/09/2006 18:41

Update - I used the microfibre cloth - wow! it worked really well and my shower screens are now beautifully clean! Though in the interests of science and experimentation I may try the vinegar next time

one of those scrunchie things and shower gel. Do it whilst showering!
