Agh! Replacement for Method Tub Scrub?

Mij · 01/08/2014 11:15

Just discovered Method have stopped making Tub Scrub. Does anyone know of any non-offensive-smelling very mildly abrasive alternatives? We're 'blitz' cleaners with filthy children and both bath and sink were SO easy to clean with an e-cloth and little effort.

And please don't say it's 'easy to make your own', cos unless it contains ingredients I already own and takes 2 minutes I'm never going to do it. Swamped in every area of life just now.

Thanks in advance :)

Bicarbonate of soda on a damp cloth? Cif?

Tapirbackrider · 01/08/2014 12:13

Magic sponges? Available on amazon very cheaply and great for baths, tiles, grouting - in fact everywhere you need to clean.

WastingMyYoungYears · 01/08/2014 12:26

I'm upset about this too Confused!

DH bought Cif. No Eco credentials, but my goodness it gets the bath clean Grin.

Somanyillustrations · 01/08/2014 12:29

Vim does the job and is super cheap

Mij · 01/08/2014 14:05

Thanks guys. Can't stand the smell of most cleaners - literally makes me nauseous (my nasal passages have never returned to normal after 2 x super-smel-powers pregnancy changes) and the eco/ethical credentials are pretty important to me. But would give bicarb a go and will check out magic sponges. Tbh, an e-cloth and elbow grease does the job, but it requires a LOT of sweat and time spent naked in an empty bath (this isn't a kinky thing - I have a bad back so can't lean over. Have to be in said bath to scrub the bloody thing). Don't think the neighbours would appreciate me cleaning the kitchen sink naked...

Ooooh, I see, the magic sponges are like the magic eraser stuff I get from Lakeland (well, not any more having seen some prices on eBay) that used to be the only stuff that got stains off the rubbish textured work surface in our old house. Do they work on actual, y'know, dirt rather than stains? Child-grub tide marks..?

I love magic sponges - I think Lakeland's one just got cheaper, as you get 3 for £5 now. But...I don't think they're at all Eco as they're made of melamine foam.

PoppyAmex · 01/08/2014 18:26

I used Method for a long time but lately just started using microfiber ecloths with a spray bottle of vinegar and eucalyptus essential oil (to mitigate the vinegar smell).

Fan and no streaks.

PoppyAmex · 01/08/2014 18:27

That's fab, not "fan" Hmm

TobyZiegler · 01/08/2014 18:31

They haven't stopped making it have they?!?! Why?!?!!
:(

Sandthorn · 01/08/2014 19:03

Have you tried ecover cream cleaner. Perfectly effective , and I think you could safely eat it .

e1y1 · 02/08/2014 00:29

Does anybody know why they have stopped making it?

Filmbuffmum · 02/08/2014 00:33

I emailed them to ask about this- apparently the milled marble which was in it (and which was presumably the thing which actually got the bath clean) was too expensive to make the product profitable. I am also very cross!

Mij · 02/08/2014 01:09

Hmmm, I guess the magic sponges are considered 'Eco' as no cleaner is required and they're reusable. But if production methods/materials are polluting or unethical then they're no better.

I haven't seen the Ecover cream cleaner so will check that too.

Oh, thanks Film. At least they admitted why they removed it, instead of the usual "so we can invest in products that mean more to our customers" which is usually what is the given out.

Thanks for that information.

Icelollycraving · 02/08/2014 20:37

The bathroom spray is really good. I use it for my tiled floors too. I also use cif on basins.

mipmop · 02/08/2014 20:53

Homebase are selling the tub and tile spray for £2 at the moment, and there's 15% off everything this weekend so it's just £1.70. (As is the daily shower spray and the pink grapefruit and lavender all purpose sprays.)

www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/method-tub-and-tile-spray---828ml-372530

Ecover cream cleaner is £1.89 (again -15% this weekend)

Guess where I was today. Smile

Update: have tried bicarb on an ecloth on the sink. Worked very well, though required a bit more elbow than tub scrub. Only have a pot for cooking though, so will definitely require a bulk bag at some point. Any suggestions for suppliers?
