Apologies if there's already a post like this. I am trying to move towards more Eco friendly (and cheaper) cleaning products and have decided to delve into the world of bicarb and vinegar. I've made a list of the ways I've found online to use them and wondered if anyone would want to share further ideas for them or comment on how effective they've found them to be (or not), or for other natural cleaning methods. I'm quite interested in how essential oils like lemon can be used but don't know much about it.

Most of these are from American sites and I haven't tried them all.

So this is what I've found so far!

Bicarb:
Wall scuffs-make a paste with water, spread on, leave to dry, wipe.
Mug stains-fill with 2/3 water and 1/3 bicarb, leave overnight, scrub and rinse.
Tupperware-either make paste and scrub or leave overnight depending on how stained.
Pots and pans-sprinkle burnt bits with bicarb, leave overnight, scrub and rinse.
Brushes and combs-soak in a bicarb/water solution.
Sofas/carpets-sprinkle with bicarb, leave up to overnight, hoover.
Grill-sprinkle with bicarb, soak for a few hours, scrub.
Bin-sprinkle under bag and in bag to deodorise.
Drains-pour 1/4 cup bicarb down sink and rinse with hot water.
Mattress-thick paste, spread on stains, leave to dry, brush off.
Laundry-use in place of half of normal powder. Dishcloths-soak with bicarb and water.
Sweat stains-mix white vinegar, bicarb and water, soak overnight then wash as normal.
Paddling pool-clean with a bicarb paste.
Flowers-pinch of bicarb in vase to keep them fresh longer.
Toilet-add cup of bicarb and leave for an hour before flushing.

Vinegar:
Drains-1/2 cup vinegar and 1/2 cup bicarb down sink, rinse with hot water.
Microwave-1 cup water mixed with 1 cup vinegar in a bowl. Micro on high 10 mins. Wipe clean.
Glassware-1 cup vinegar in bottom of dishwasher before turning on.
Shower head-fill bag with vinegar and tie around shower head. Leave overnight then rinse.
Shower-spray vinegar on shower walls to prevent mildew.
Mirrors/windows-mix 1tbsp vinegar and 1 quart water. Spray and wipe.
Mouldy walls-spray with vinegar, leave 15 mins, rinse and dry.
Carpet spills-remove as much liquid as poss. Spray with half vinegar and half water, leave 2 mins, blot.
Stickers-rub labels with vinegar, leave 10 mins.
Toilet-cup vinegar into bowl, swish, leave 1 min. Add 1 cup bicarb then 1 or 2 more cups vinegar. Let fizz for 10 mins and swish. Scrub stains. Flush.

Stain on carpet -sprinkle with bicarb then spray with vinegar and watch as the fizz takes the stain away....magic!

Ooh! I am wondering how many of the ones I've already found can be improved by adding whichever ingredient isn't already there. Lots, I imagine. Am currently trying the bicarb paste on some wall scuffs which have defied even the magic eraser. Fingers crossed.

Does anyone know the one for the washing machine? Something like bicarb in the drum and vinegar in the drawer?

Wall scuffs works!
