Help! Melted toaster plastic on hob..............

Here's what happened...My Mum bought us a worktop hob thing with 2 sealed plates for when we didn't have an oven. We have no oven again so have been using it. Anyway, the other morning, I came downstairs, moved the toaster out from under the top cupboards and put it onto the plates of the hob thing. Made toast, went through to give it to the kids, came back (luckily) to do dd2's breakfast and the kitchen was filling with smoke - the plates were ON and had melted the bottom of the toaster and the cable - how it wasn't on fire I don't know.

So, the question is, I've picked off the biggest bit of melted plastic from thew plates but how do I get it all off so we can use the hob to cook with?

I did this but with my main hob and a plastic box when I was packing up my rented house!

Like you, I picked the main bits off.

Then, I turned on the heat really low - just enough to melt the residual plastic - and i scrubbed it witha scouring pad, scraed it with a metal fish slice and scrubbed it some more!!
Most of it came off - and I was able to cook again. Landlord never said anything about it so I guess that worked! After that I started to switch the hob off at the mains incase I did it again.
Best of luck!!

Phew! Thank God I'm not the only one! I wondered about switching it on low to melt the remains of the plastic but was a little worried about the fumes - they were rancid!!! Think I'll give it a go tonight when the kids are in bed - thank you!
