Slow Cookers?

My friends at work keep telling me I should have one of these. Do they work with a minimum of preparation ( keep hearing you have to sear food and pre cook it etc) ? What can you cook other than stews?

Also, is a cheap one as good as an expensive one, if they are worth buying?

I'm envious of those that can make it work. I always end up with brown gloop whatever I'm cooking.
Halogen oven on the other hand is used daily here. The meat is amazing in it.

I've got this in my £15 sc right now. It's not necessarily less prep but now at dinner time I only have to worry about the veg. So much easier. You can cook loads in them but I usually do:

Beef casserole
Chicken casserole
Chicken curry
BBQ pulled pork
Sausage casserole
Chilli
Bolognese

Oh my word - I'm a slow cooker geek!

You can cook EVERYTHING in the slow cooker - from soups, stews and casseroles, to joints of meats/chicken, lasagne, moussaka, hunters chicken, to cakes, puddings, even crème brulee.

Are you on FB - if not you need to be just to joint Slow Cooked Wonders - an amazing group with hundreds of recipes and loads of hints and tips.

I have a Lakeland slow cooker and despite it being July I cooked MN sausage and bean casserole for our tea, easy as can be and massively comforting. Here's the link: mumsnet.com/food/recipe/2551-Simple-sausage-and-bean-casserole
