Cleaning water marks from sparkly granite

Icelollycraving · 11/07/2014 22:00

I have sparkly black granite which I clean with either washing up liquid or method granite cleaner. I buff with an e cloth. If anything wet sits on the granite for even a few seconds it seems to really leave a mark which takes extra buffing. Is there anything else I can use?

Might it be worth getting a water softener?

I use Flash on my granite, can't remember exactly which one but there is one which doesn't mention stone in the "do not use on" section. It works really well

We have granite and were given some great advice from the fitters recently.

Use a blade from a Stanley knife (held side ways) to scrap off chalk build up (we live in a hard water area so get a build up every few months). Also you can use wire wool (great for getting into draining canals). Don't use bleach products (over time they will damage the surface and remove shine). Speaking of shine, if you want a sparkly finish (for when friends and family are visiting!) then whip out the glass cleaner (as long as the vinegar content is low). Grin

I was told not to use anything like flash etc as they can damage it over time. The water goes on & once I've buffed it,it disappears but say if I run a wet cloth, the water 'stains' are there. Read wire wool/blades but I'd be terrified of it going wrong.

I used window cleaner on mine to get it really sparkly!

I was told not to use Flash too Emus but was then told that that didn't apply to all varieties. Most types of Flash say on the back "Not suitable on stone, etc" but there is one or two that don't and they are ok apparently. Mine is looking fine anyway

I know what you mean about the blade and wire wool IceLolly, I think I was stood there with my jaw on the floor when the guy whipped out a blade and started removing our buildup. Since then though I've been excited to get build up so that I can have a go - is that wrong? I use Dettol and Method Granite cleaner (even though he told me I was wasting my money with the granite cleaner, I told him I liked the smell!).

Our granite fitter told me to use Cif (the good old fashioned cream stuff) with the rough side of a pan scourer to get rid of water marks. Then I use Worktop Wonder from Lakeland to buff it up. It looks fab.

So the wire wool, how? Just with a little water?

Use steel wool LIKE THIS
ultra fine is grade '0000'. You can buy it on Amazon.

Black sparkly granite is usually quite a hard granite so I doubt you would scratch the granite but you could always test it on a hidden spot.

Our granite fitter told us to use clear water buffed with an e cloth before it dried. It worked great on the sparkly black granite we had in our previous kitchen.

Just thought I'd update as I know we all like a new cleaning product!
Kill rock granite cleaner, best thing I've used yet. Removed most of the water marks & the sparkly bits are twinkling in a way that makes me v happy saddo.
