Caring for silk bedding.

I love my silk filled duvet and would love to splash out on a set of silk bedding. However, I wonder how easy it is to clean.

I would not hand wash, it would have to survive the delicate silk program on my machine.

As for drying, silk does not like to be in the sun for hours but tumble drying is so harsh. So what do you do?

I do not normally iron bedding but I suppose I would have to iron silk. Non iron silk bedding would be perfect but unlikely to exist.

I know I would love sleeping under silk sheets but not sure I can manage the upkeep. Please does anyone out there have silk bedding?

Never washed, I just throw it over the washing line to air for a couple of hours avoiding hot sunshine.

Apparently airing should be sufficient, it was so expensive I am scared of ruining it by washing it.

Yes I'm terrified of ruining mine too! Will probably just stick to airing...

We were given some beautiful white silk bedding for a wedding present but after one very hot & uncomfortable night ended up selling it. Sorry but I hope you're dreams of silky smooth cool bedding don't end like ours.

Oh no, was it real silk or polyester?

The reason I covet silk is because my quilt is so lovely and keeps your body temperature just right.

I suppose the alternative is good quality cotton, but I would want the fabric to be as thin as possible which I imagine is not possible with a high thread count.

100% silk I'm afraid. Be interesting to hear if any other silk bedding fans find it got or whether DH & I just like a really cold bed!

I have silk pillowcases and wash them in the machine without any problems. I then either hang them on the line or on the clothes airer to dry.
