we have a roomba and a scooba and they both make our house tidier and cleaner, If anything just to give us the motivation to clear the floors everyday so it doesn't build up into a big job like it used to.

What is your most useful possession? We have just had another baby and my goodness have I noticed it in the housework! I am aware spending time with the kids is more important so I am just trying to see if there is anything else I'm missing that will save me a bit of time.

I know clutter is the enemy and have been decluttering gradually but no time to do any at the moment.

I love having a dishwasher. And the slow cooker is fantastic for saving time in the evenings.

I have started cooking enough for 4 and freezing 2 portions, if you freeze stuff then tip it out of the plastic tub and put the block of frozen food in a freezer bag you can fit more in the freezer. And reuse the same few tubs.

I also love my steam mop even though I detest mopping with a mop and bucket.

Threads like this make me feel like I have nothing in common with other women.

My initial answer to the OP was 'have a do who does the housework' but I feel embarrassed writing that now.

In the vein of the thread from days gone by when I remember doing this stuff things that helped were-
-DS socks all one colour
-bulk buy non food
-all washing in together (didn't wear white)
-bought tumble dryer and dishwasher
-no ironing
-school dinners
-use same teacup all day
-sort all paperwork and budget every 3 months

Shower at night then I can get up and get dressed in the morning instead of trying to shower with a clingy baby.

Madratlady · 16/07/2014 10:38

Weatherall that helps too, most of the tips on this thread would save time for you or do, whoever is doing the housework.

I do a sheet of address labels for all the people I send cards to, saves looking for their address and writing it out!

sadsaddersaddest · 18/07/2014 14:41

Dishwasher.

Pressure cooker.

A good iron.

Decluttering.

Cleaning the toilet and bathroom sink and / or ironing just outside the bathroom when the DCs are in the bath.

clemetteattlee · 18/07/2014 18:49

I might be the opposite of many but I find ironing very therapeutic - it's the only task that seems to have a finite end! Once a week whilst DH is at football and I watch Casualty and One Born.

Other tips:

Decluttering
Employing a cleaner.
Not being the only person responsible for this stuff in my house. I set up the "systems" and routines but the others do their bit by following them.

Putting a wash on every day
Wipe kitchen surfaces before bed
Clean bath after each use
Buy presents a year in advance

Put things on the stairs that need to be taken up - next person to go up grabs something and rehomes it!
