Getting rid of pet hair! Please help

We moved into a new house 10 weeks ago. The previous owners had 2 terriers. I expected to have dog fur about, but I feel like no matter how often I hoover it's never ending.

Upstairs isn't too bad, as I think the dogs didn't go up there. Some has been moved around by us and dd. Someone told me to get a broom and sweep first, is this worth a try?

Any advice gratefully received.

Rubber gloves.

If you brush surfaces down with rubber gloves on, the hairs stick to the gloves and clump together so they're easier to clean (must be the static, I guess).

But pet hair does get everywhere, unfortunately. We went for hard floors throughout the downstairs so we can at least see it and clean it up - in a previous house we had carpets and I dread to think how much hair was in them. (We replaced them before putting it on the market!)

Brilliant thanks! Will try that tomorrow. I had 2 dogs of my own in my twenties, but this fur is so different. It almost embeds itself into the carpet, which is also quite coarse.

rip up the carpet and get nice new hair free carpet instead

Have you got a decent Hoover? I can't believe the difference between my old one ( Henry) and my new Miele cat and dog. It really does suck up embedded hair - I love it. Maybe you could borrow one from someone to do a thorough clean if you don't want to fork out for one. But if you can afford to , I'd get new carpets!
