Mouldy vertical blinds!

How do i clean them? Tried just wiping with a damp cloth but the mould seems to be IN the fabric Sad. I'm worried if i use a chemical it might bleach the blinds!

Any help very much appreciated.

Right - my little book if How to Clean Everything says to use equal quantities of vinegar and salt, but that will make the blinds smell. Perhaps a paste of bicarb and water?

But if the blinds are mouldy the problem you've got is trapped moisture. You need to open windows to get the moisture out and fresh air in and open the blinds if they are in contact with whatever is damp - presumably the glass which has condensation on it. A dehumidifier in the room will help.

You may have to bin them and get new ones because mould is not healthy.

Thanks Wow, we rent so the blinds aren't actually ours :-/

The whole flat has a condensation/damp problem so its not as easy as keeping the windows open!

Will give the bicarb a try and hope for the best!

We bought a house with the horrid things up downstairs (I hate them)
I first tried putting them in the bath with a bit of non bio washing powder and Napisan, but they were still grim.

So... I stuck them in the washer with some bleach and they came up fine.

They were rather creased after I washed them so I ironed them whilst damp then re-hung them.

In the dining room they looked ok.
But in the livingroom (huge bay window) they were obviously made in different lengths to fit the window iykwim and I've just put them back up in a random order.

From outside they look fine, but inside they look a bit silly :o
it would be fairly easy to rearrange them but I can't be arsed... I can't wait till we decorate this room and I can bin the vile things

Obviously I wouldn't recommend doing that in a rented house, unless you had the money or the inclination to replace them if it all went pear shaped.

I don't like them either - they make a house look drab and soulless from outside and block out everything from inside - and wouldn't have thought you could wash them! I bow to your superior knowledge Annianni. If you did try that, perhaps iron them when damp to get the creases out. Have you spoken to the landlord about the damp OP? It's not good for you - maybe ask the landlord to get a dehumidifier for the room?
