Tiny Waist and Long Legs - where do I buy my son his school trousers???

Please help as I'm sure I'm not the only parent of a boy with a really skinny waist and long legs!!! Where can I buy school trousers, anyone know?

His waist is age 3/4 but he needs age 7/8 tousers trousers for their length! It's so frustrating as I've tried loads of different shops - even the adjustable waisted trousers (in extra long) from Adams don't reduce enough!!!

Not long to go now and I'm beginning to stress!

You may have to resort to the nearest fit and a good belt. My friends DD is the same, she's in age 4/5 waist and 7/8 length.

If you can, it wouldn't be too expensive to get them taken it at a local seamstress, there's loads of them in the yellow pages.

I got my ds some adjustable waist ones in M&S this year.

more pricey but gap do a slim fit

Quokate · 01/09/2006 16:07

Thank everyone! Will hafta try Gap although I've been boycotting them because they use child labour (allegedly - so noone gets sued!)

The Tesco sizes are the nearest to fitting so if Gap's no good, I could buy Tesco's as they're cheap and then get them altered I suppose! I didn't think of altering them so A BIG THANK YOU!

The ambiguous sizing of childrens clothes does annoy me, it's hard enough for women but if you shop around you can find the right thing. Impossible for men as our tall skinny friend finds. He has to have his work clothes tailor made which is so irritating!
But what on earth is 4-6 years , or 9-12 months meant to mean?

Kaloo20 · 01/09/2006 16:14

The thing is when you take them in around the waist this just look like clowns trousers around the bum and tops of the legs - we suffer this problem too.

AvaLou · 01/09/2006 16:19

It's really worth going to a seamstress. Our local dry cleaners took in some jeans for me and they look as if they were always that way, and it only cost £4.

Quokate · 01/09/2006 16:34

£4 would be alright I guess!

Keep threatening my DH that I'll dig out the sewing machine and make my ds's school trousers myself!!!

DH said he'd report me to social services for neglect if I made em myself! No faith in my sewing skills (!!?!!) obviously!

Hi Cali! Our Primark is only small and dont carry schoolwear but a bigger one is opening up in the new year so hopefully in the Spring I won't experience this nightmare anymore eh?

Hi OCD! Are they expensive from Next Online! If they fitted it'd be worth it!

We have a similar problem, both my boys petite (AKA scrawny ). M&S trousers a size too young for their age seem best, but avid the National Schoolwear chain like the plague.... I don't think DS1 will ever grow into the ones for his age that I bought!

best fit we have is Adams, but not one in nearest Mall.

chickenwings · 01/09/2006 17:16

If you happen to know anyone who is going to France then ask them to pick up some trousers - someone did this for me and they are the only trousers that fitted by eldest who has a tiny waist and no bum!

Quokate · 01/09/2006 17:24

Wonder if I could get some online then from France???

AvaLou · 01/09/2006 17:30

maybe the la redoute catalogue, they might have a website too?

nikkie · 01/09/2006 19:13

Adams do different leg lengths, someone (Roisin?) recommended them for boys a while ago but we have them for dd1

saltire · 01/09/2006 19:21

I had to get my DSs trousers from tesco and Asda, as DS1 is 8, and wear 10/11 and Ds2 is 6 and wear 8/9! The length is great but the waists are huge, and they do look like clown trouserswhen you pull them in with the elastic

WHEELIEWHEEL · 02/09/2006 15:41

Asda are good for trousers with adjustable waists. They have elastic with a button to pull in.

ocd · 02/09/2006 15:42

a but pricey?? they cost £6 99!!!
i got a snake belt too though
