You know that kind of sweaty, crunchy bit in the armpits of shirts, how can I get this of it? or is it just my dh? Blush

There is a great thing called deogo. Use that then soak overnight in water and vinegar. Then wash.

Rummikub · 27/05/2014 15:30

Hot wash would help. 60'

nbee84 · 27/05/2014 15:41

Dh gets this and I've always assumed it was overuse of deodorant as he does spray liberally and then another squirt each side just to be sure!

sacbina · 27/05/2014 15:52

Tried 60 degree washes and soda crystals, bicarb of soda, wine vinegar, all to no avail
Will try deogo, fingers crossed. Assume it's in the detergent section or is it something to order??

I ignore dps crunchy shirt armpits. I don't have to wear them. Can he iron them himself if it makes you heave?

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 27/05/2014 15:56

Nappisan soak ?

chickenfordinner · 27/05/2014 15:57

Be interested to know how you get on OP, my DH gets this too.....

sacbina · 27/05/2014 15:57

The beauty of M&S non iron shirts, no one has to iron :)

UriGeller · 27/05/2014 16:03

M&s need to invent uncrunchy armpit shirts then Wink

Indith · 27/05/2014 16:09

I got my last thing of deogo on amazon. Lakeland used to sell it but think they stopped. The stuff it absolutely amazing. honestly. Dh is a sweaty sod who gets horrible deodoranty crunchy sweat encrusted pits and so am I Blush. I have rescued a lot of clothes which had horrible yellow looking pits (white t-shirts) and started to smell soon after I put them on as they warmed up. They come up good as new after a deogo scrub and vinegar soak.

sacbina · 27/05/2014 16:09

I will post back, as soon as I've found it to buy

:)
The beauty of MN and internet. Asked a Q, answered, ordered. If only I didn't have to wait for the post!

chickenfordinner · 27/05/2014 16:23

Bit of a tangent but do m&s non iron shirts really not need ironing? That would save (DH) a lot of time!

sacbina · 27/05/2014 16:52

Definitely. Obviously not super crisp ironed look but who cares! I'm not going to iron and neither will dh. No one has complained so far

Fabulous! Thanks sacbina Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/05/2014 19:13

I rescued a top using hot cheap vinegar.

wowfudge · 27/05/2014 19:15

The guy at the launderette we used to take ironing to swore by vanish spray before every wash to prevent this.

Deogo sounds interesting though - never heard of it before -and I've tried everything

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 27/05/2014 19:53

The Amazon reviews for Deogo warn that there's a real risk of bleaching coloured shirts though, so use carefully.

Indith · 28/05/2014 07:27

No problems here with bleaching as yet. I figure if it is bad enough to use deogo then it probably needs throwing out if I can't rescue it anyway!

Furball · 28/05/2014 07:32

I find even after a tumble dry and hang up straight away, the M & S shirts still need a very quick light going over with the iron.

It is a very quick iron though, and soooo much easier than ironing normal shirts

Furball · 28/05/2014 07:33

that was a response to chickenfordinner

IDontDoIroning · 28/05/2014 07:52

White vinegar - spray on to dry fabric both on the inside and the outside aim to soak through the fabric as it builds up on the seams and leave for a while consider a second spraying if bad and then a hot wash. It can take several goes to get rid completely and if they are really bad it can seem that it hasn't worked the first time as I think it's just loosening it. Wilco do a white vinegar spray for about 99p or buy from asda by the bottle.
I've rescued loads of shirts like this some were really bad with yellow staining and thick buildup which are now like new, and now give the armpits a squirt before washing to stop the build up.

sacbina · 28/05/2014 10:02

I just wash and hang, no need to tumble.

Thanks sacbina and furball. DH does need to be smart for work but we'll get a couple and give them a go. much appreciated Grin

TeenyfTroon · 29/05/2014 08:02

idontdoironing, thank you - I've just discovered vinegar as a cure for smelly sports shirts (thanks to MN!), just hadn't thought of putting it in a spray. Brilliant!
