Land line telephone

I find it very hard to find a land line telephone to replace the BT Relate 2100 which has developed an annoying whistle when making calls. It is about 14 years old, so it does not owe me anything.
I got it initially because it was the only phone to come with caller ID. Now most of them come with that.
It also comes with a SIM card which holds a 200 name phone book. I am not keen on having to manually transfer all my numbers, so would like to keep the SIM card (if I knew how to get it out - eek).
My question is: which phone do I replace it with. The information I get from the internet is that almost every phone comes with an answering machine (why as I use 1571), is sometimes corded or cordless and, (don't mind either), sometimes comes with two or three handsets. (This would be handy if they all had caller ID.)

Is there anybody who can advise on the different brands, please and tell me what to get. Thanks.

we have panasonic telephone/answering machine from argos - 3 handsets all that show the phone number of the person calling.

Thanks powerhoops It's just that the one I have now, because it has an inbuilt phone book, it shows the name of the person calling if it's in my phonebook. If not, it will just show the number. And again because of the inbuilt phonebook I can just dial on the name and don't have to look up the number.

Sounds the same as ours. We have names and numbers stored so it would show who was calling or just the number if it wasnt stored

Yes, in that case it does, thanks. Does your phone book come on a SIM card or did you have to feed them in manually?
Can you speak hands free?

Does THIS help?

Very much so. I am dithering between that and being brave and going for a different system like
BT Diverse 7410 Twin Plus Cordless Phone - Web Price £79.99 which LiGo recommended.
But then when I checked the reviews it said that there was an echo on the line (which would be most annoying), that the handset was uncomfortable on long calls and that it wasn't sure that I could transfer the SIM card from the Relate. I am about to enquire about that this morning.
But this has given me a whole new thing to think about. Many thanks.

I spoke to a very helpful man on the BT help line who told me that the BT relate 2100 never came with a SIM card and what had I put in? Well I never did put anything in and I think, on checking there is no SIM card, there never was a SIM card and I feel a fool Blush. The question is now whether I can buy a phone that will let me transfer numbers from my mobile into the land line or whether I have to enter them manually. All telephones have caller ID these days. So it's back to the drawing board a bit.
