Liquitab in the dishwasher by mistake...

...have I broken it? Well I say I, it was my husband who found the persil liquitab (bounty pack freebie) meant for washing CLOTHES and thought it was a dishwasher tablet. Realised his mistake once he switched it on and it started making a really weird noise. Opened it mid wash to have a look and saw a lot of foam but then decided to let the cycle finish anyway.

Any advice ? It was non-bio if that helpsð???

I'd put the machine on again on the hottest programme with no detergent to clean it out then maybe do it again with some dishwasher cleaner. I doubt a one off will have done any permanent damage, but the soap and perfume residues will need washing out so they don't taint everything in the dishwasher. You may also need to re-wash everything that was in it.

Thanks fudge for replying. It's the strange noise that was worrying me so we'll have to wait and see if that goes. I've washed all the dishes again but the meadow fresh smell is still overwhelming! Going to put it on an empty cycle now, hottest setting like you suggested. Read on here that you should do that regularly anyway to keep it clean which is something I never do so now's a good time to start!

Hi - the only other thing I can suggest is to keep the door wide open at least overnight to try to get rid of the smell and contact the manufacturer for advice. I think you are lucky you weren't overwhelmed with foam!

I agree. run it empty a couple of times and then run with dishwasher cleaner. just need to make sure it's all flushed out. I would be surprised if it's broken but I could be wrong. I would do it as soon as possible though before it all dries in.

Ds once ran ours with washing up liquid instead of dishwasher powder(trying to be helpful!) cue kitchen full of suds but was fine afterwards. It was quite a sight now I think about it!

The noise was probably foam in the pump instead of water.

I would actually use multiple rinse (cold) cycles to wash away the detergent, because it will probably foam less when cold. When it has stopped foaming, do it hot.

I once pit washing up liquid in the dishwasher after having read an online forum on how to get the dishwasher to drain properly I think whoever posted that was having a laugh and can't believe I was actually stupid enough to do it. Anyway, I found out that adding a cupful of white vinegar into the bottom of the machine and running it on a hot cycle cleaned it out and helped to get rid of all the foam. Smelt a bit like a chip shop though but got rid of the foam party in my kitchen!
