Anyone had a deep clean done before employing a cleaner?

Basically, just that. I'm going back to work in September and with two kids and a DH, needs must, so we've at last agreed to employ a cleaner.

We have a 3 bed house, one bathroom, small living room, dining room and small kitchen.

I keep the worst at bay but I very rarely vacuum under beds or sofas, dust or wash woodwork, clean lightshades, etc.

I know we need to declutter too. That I can do. But getting all the books and crannies cleaned will be a struggle. Is it worth getting a deep clean done before cleaner starts?

Yes it is worth doing and will mean your cleaner will be able to do more when they are there.
You can get a cleaner to do a little bit of deep clean each week, but it isn't the same as gwtti g the whole house done to a top notch standard in one fell swoop.

Do the decluttering first though!

I did this and decided that deep cleans were highly preferable to a regular cleaner - no commitment, no person showing up at your house in the morning.

When I've had a space between cleaners and the house has got a bit below standard I ask the new cleaner to do 2 rooms at a time at first and then once they have all had a " bottoming" as they say up here they can keep on top of the whole house in the 3 hours they come for.
If I ask them to do windows or something one week I get them to miss the bedrooms
