Decluttering toys, sad?

Am I the only one who finds it hard to get rid of kids toys and paraphernalia ? I can't seem to let go but have no place to store ! Help me please , it's getting out of control x

No you are not the only one! I find it extremely hard to let go too.

We have three young boys and are overrun with toys and clothes. I am in desperate need of a sort out but find most times I think 'LO might like that' or 'They might want to play with that soon'!

Maybe it's just hard to let go of their youth!!

I made it a rule that if it's broken or incomplete it gets binned.

there seem to be a lot of puzzle pieces going missing lately and some accidents too

Eventually you get sick of looking at it. Eventually. Like, 10 years later. Sorry.

I have to do it on a day I'm feeling strong and ruthless or I keep it all!!

my son is almost 13 and I still can't part with any of his toys, its so hard!

I'm the same as Damnautocorrect , on a ruthless day I get everything that is going into the car and off to the charity shop/tip on the same day. I've never missed anything yet. I've even donated stuff to the DC's nursery and they have actually played with it more!

If I'm feeling weak it goes in the cupboard for a few months, then I realise that none of us has missed the toys so off they go to the charity shop. I've found that with toys less is more, they can actually get to their stuff to play with it.

I have a cupboard full of baby toys that need ebaying, but every time I open it I find myself picturing my chubby baby daughter clutching them and promptly close the door again. We have NO storage space so I'm going to have to get a grip soon!

Totally understand. Try giving them to friends or family or a kids charity so hopefully you can feel good about that. Or for expensive things, ebay/gumtree and spend the money on something nice for your kids.

I kept one or two special items for each DC in their memory box and gradually whittled the rest down over the years. In fact I sold it! Only things kept were complete lego sets and a beautiful wooden train track which have been bagged up and put in the attic.

DDs are 16&13 and it's finally not so hard to get rid of some stuff. Soft toys still hurt, but DD2 is heartless and I try to be too.
