White wine poured on top

crispyporkbelly · 25/04/2014 20:55

Or 1001 stain remover

Norfolknway · 25/04/2014 20:55

One of those washer up sponges really soapy with washing up liquid and pat it on the red wine...sort of suck it out of the carpet with the sponge!

I've used this method loads once or twice x

DorothyGherkins · 25/04/2014 20:57

1001, either the spray or shampoo, or both is brilliant.

Huggies Pure baby wipes.

I would flush it out by pouring more water or white wine on top of it. The surface area will get bigger, but the deepness of the colour will diluted. Then gently pat of the excess water with a tea towel.

LettertoHermioneGranger · 25/04/2014 21:06

Blot, don't rub.

Apply 1 part white vinegar, 1 part water, plus a bit of dishwashing soap.

Blot some more. Use clean damp towel. Blot some more. Use a dry towel, blot some more.

If still there, pour some baking soda onto the spot, let it stand for a few minute, then repeat the whole blotting thing.

HarlotOTara · 25/04/2014 21:08

This happened to me and I used 1001 stain remover, it will need more than one spray but it worked. My carpet is beige too and you wouldn't know red wine had ever been on it.

RenterNomad · 25/04/2014 21:22

Lakeland seems to let the bad product reviews stand, and is pretty good at choosing its products in the first place, so look at their stain remover section, for ideas if good products. I recently used the spot kind remover, but "only" for poo on a carpet, which is yuck, but not as robust a stain as red wine. Still, it didn't fade/mark the carpet, so it can't hurt!

no doubt you would be just as unhappy if you owned the house!

it does happen and hopefully it will come out with these top tips. If it doesn't, unless the carpet is brand new last week the landlord would not get full replacement value from the deposit.

also worth mentioning that your tenants contents insurance may have an accidental damage add-on, to cover this kind of thing. If it doesn't, consider it, doesn't cost much.

I got some out recently - I was amazed how easy it was.

My DD spilled it late at night & I really couldn't be arsed to deal with it at that point so blotted the excess with a clean tea towel, poured a bit of cold water on top, blotted it again & left overnight

Stain was still very bad next morning - I sprinkled Vanish powder (Oxyclean is the same) on it, poured soda water on top & whoosh - completely gone - unbelievable!

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 25/04/2014 22:14

actually I might have dissolved the Vanish in water first, I'll see if I can find the source!

Thank you all!!! Grin

Contents Insurance?

I claimed when my DS spilt lucozade on our carpet, wouldn't budge.

Mosling · 26/04/2014 18:36

The pink Vanish spray is magical, it just goes. And 5 yrs later hasn't come back. Damp salt on a red wine spill killed my Hoover, however...

Gerty1002 · 27/04/2014 10:18

I second Vanish Oxi Action if you haven't solved this yet. Have a 7mo refluxer and use it about 10x a day, it's tremendous stuff.
