Fimbo · 23/08/2006 15:00

oliveoil · 23/08/2006 15:02

I vant cotton though [princess emoticon]

this is for our room, not my girls, they have Asda specials!

My sis saw some v nice stuff in John Lewis but it was £100 for a quilt cover.

I think some of IKEA's is really nice - v cheap, and 100% cotton unlike many brands, and they do have posh satiny fabrics as well as the uber-cheapo ones.

hoxtonchick · 23/08/2006 15:03

ikea. or habitat. (i am demanding about 100% cotton too).

alex8 · 23/08/2006 15:05

matalan does very cheap 100% cotton. Some nice desogns too.

CountessDracula · 23/08/2006 15:05

Asda do fabulously soft stuff in their "oooh I'm considerably posher than YOW" range (can't remember what it;s called, the range)

REally is nice, plain white with some pintucks

CountessDracula · 23/08/2006 15:06

here is second from the bottom

oliveoil · 23/08/2006 15:09

ooooh countess, now I thought I knew everything about Asda but that looks v nice.

like your description, that is me (Hyacinth Bucket).

Is 180 thread count good? I think JLo and her ilk demand a certain level but I have no idea

CountessDracula · 23/08/2006 15:10

well my white company bedding is a much higher thread count but is not as soft as this, oddly.

PrettyCandles · 23/08/2006 15:10

I've had good linens and towels from BHS some years ago. Not their cheapest of the cheap ranges, but even their more expensive stuff is relatively cheap. JL do do very nice Jonelle linens at good prices for excellent quality, but it's all plain - great range of colours though. IIRC a kingsize fitted sheet in 50/50 cotton/poly percale cost £14 in August, and their 50/50 percale feels like cotton. The 100% cotton sheet cost more, but not exhorbitant.

do you not have a washing machine?

oliveoil · 23/08/2006 15:11

yes

and stained sheets

and a blunt eyeliner

180 thread count is the minimum, really, but the quality of the cotton has a great effect on how well it wears and how soft it feels. Again, JL is very good there.

Dunelm mill good if you have 1 near you. I got mine from Debenhams and not cheap but cheaperthan john lewis and v good quality

wheelsonthebus · 23/08/2006 15:23

john lewis everytime - cheap, great quality and nice range

MrsMcJnr · 23/08/2006 15:26

Littlewoods and Look Again catalouges can have some nice ones. I got a set of Monsoon ones from Look Again and over 20 weeks and with cash back, they were pretty reasonable.

Rojak · 23/08/2006 15:36

TK Maxx are reasonably priced and you can often get them reduced. Look for the 250 thread count and up ones!

Piffle · 23/08/2006 15:38

ikea gonestly cheap as... very good quality IMO

MiloMummy · 23/08/2006 15:44

You could try ebay shops. I was looking at some satin on there a while back and I think it was about £25 for a double set

MrsBadger · 23/08/2006 15:48

hmm - we have the JL 50/50 percale stuff and it has stayed smooth for nigh on 6 years.

Last year we bought (at great expense) a JL all-cotton set with a self satin stripe, and it's already gone bobbly in a way indistinguishable from the £10 Ikea set I bought in an emergency. I mean, it's nice and cosy and cottony, but it's more flannelette-pyjamas than slinky-luxury

Even the absolute nicest stuff we have (Harrods cotton percale with astronomical thread count filched from my mum) only feels as nice as the JL percale, not better.

So there you go.

MrsFio · 23/08/2006 15:50

dont want to make you jealous oliveoil but one of our local shops for local people sells slights seconds of Christy's bedlinen and all sorts of egyptian cotton stuff

bubblepop · 23/08/2006 16:29

theres a factory shop near me called hico. very reasonable.you can pick up a double duvet set for less than a tenner.
