Toddlers and wooden floors in the dining room- how do you keep the floor clean?

I have oiled engineered flooring which probably doesn't want to be wiped after every meal. Changing the flooring isn't an option. The toddler is doing his best but creates crumbs (no problem) but frequently also mess that needs to be wet wiped. I suspect the floor will complain about being wet wiped - even by something just slightly damp- so frequently.

So what do you do? Protect the floor with a cover? How do you keep yours clean?

Oil cloth under the high chair. Make it a big one!

I have oiled engineered oak floors. I clean them once a month properly and reoil patches under the table. I wipe clean with a damp cloth. Seemsok so far!

I have oiled engineered flooring too. It's been down for 4 years and I have recoiled it yet (I really know I should, but it still looks the same).
I have a cordless dyson for crumbs after each mealtime and spot clean with floor wipes. I properly clean every other day with a damp e-cloth mop.

Thanks. So wiping with water seems popular.

For anyone else with oiled floors, especially if you've had them for years - could you tell me which products and equipment you use, and how often you re-oil it?

We also put a large mat under the toddlers chair...

WOCA soap to clean and oil to oil. I just use a mop and bucket. Oil with a cloth but only every 6 months or so.

Dunelm do PVC fabric £2.99 for a meter squared - we use it under the highchair as we have carpet.
