Ooo 25% off this weekend at homebase, only £18.

I've just used one, they're pretty good. They don't soak your carpets as much as professional cleaning. But well worth the money. Easy to use.

Serenity, can you walk on the carpets afterwards, are they dry enough just to carry on as normal?

I'm also bewildered by all the sprays, pre-treatments and detergents; do i really need them, or would the general detergent do on its own? I mean, yes I could get the urine pre-treatment, but then it's more than just wee on the carpet. And I could probably do with the 'heavy traffic' area pre treatment, but you know then it all starts to add up to a big bill. And will one litre of rug doc detergent do the whole of a small 3 bedroom house with a small living room? Aaargh, so many complications with a simple carpet cleaner!

I'd be I interested too. Not sure whether to just bite the bullet and buy one?

I'm sure I read a thread once when someone just used mashing machine liquid instead of the proper rug doctor stuff. Not sure if I imagined it though. Would certainly make it cheaper. Does it take a lot longer than normal hoovering?

I hired one a few weeks ago and the rug doctor cleaning solution was almost as much as the hire!!
The lady behind the counter told me to get star drops (old fashioned cleaning liquid) and I also threw in some liquid Laundry detergent and some vanish liquid.
Worked a treat

I hired professionals to clean carpets wrecked by animals. Small local company that come highly recommended. Once the carpets dried the stains were still there, as was the smell! Hired a rug doctor and did it myself-did use rug doctor detergent-huge improvement on the "professional" effort!

That's interesting. Makes me wonder if a rug doctor would be better than buying a carpet cleaner (that's in my budget).
