Bosch or hotpoint washing machine

My zanussi is stopping mid cycle and leaking underneath- only 3 years old I could cry.
Really don't want another zanussi.
Looking at Bosch or hotpoint but don't know which to go for.
Myself and 2 children in the house probably do 4-5 loads a week.
Would like high spin as struggles to dry clothes in the winter.
Thanks for an advice

Bosch. Always Bosch. Unless Miele.

My Aunts Bosch has just broke down only after having it a year.

MrsC1966 · 15/04/2014 22:02

Love my Bosch dishwasher, tumble dryer and washing machine.

Hotpoint died after 2 years, I've now got a Bosch and love it

Loved my 8 year old very cheap Hotpoint Aquarius, and miss it. Hate my new Bosch ... can't get used to it at all.

On the basis that I have a fabulous Bosch tumble dryer, and my mum is very pleased indeed with her Bosch washing machine, and I used to have a useless Hotpoint washer/dryer, I would say to go for the Bosch.

We have a 1400 spin on our washing machine, but I would be happy with 1200. I wouldn't go as high as 1600 as you don't need it. The clothes just get incredibly creased at that speed.

MightilyOats · 17/04/2014 13:49

We've had two Bosch exxpress ones, they get a hammering! both have been second hand, last one started leaking inexplicably but this one seems ok. Has 1200 spin speed, does all the rinses etc I need it to do (cloth nappies) and has a 15 minute quick wash cycle.

PigletJohn · 17/04/2014 14:18

it is sometimes said that the very fastest spin machines wear out faster than the slightly slower ones from the same range. They often have the same motors and bearings, so the slower ones are less stressed.

Inertia · 17/04/2014 23:28

Bosch - far more reliable.

I had my bosch maxx for 12 years. Now have a miele and expect it to outlive me! It is worth the hassle to do a bit of research when buying a new bosch. They do different ranges and the cheapest are not that great. Only the slightly more expensive ones are actually made in germany and love up to theor reputation. A few years back the cheap ones were a series of random letters and numbers while the better ones were called classixxx, and two other ranges with a few xx in it. Not sure about current labelling.
if your old machine is giving up after 3 years you should get advice re your rights under the sale of goods act.

Regarding the Bosch dishwasher. Please do not go out or go to bed while it is on. Ours burst into flame and we were only saved by the fire alarm. This week same thing happened to local family who were saved by their alarm when dishwasher caught fire while they were in bed. Contact Bosch and check model no. Regarding washing machine, I only recently changed our Bosch after 12 years. I only bought Siemens as I was still shaken by dishwasher experience although I know they are really the same.

Have a bosch and 8 years on (after real nappies n all) is going well. Stopped spinning a few months ago and easily remedied by new brushes. Repair man also said bosch were good.

BeaLola · 21/04/2014 12:27

Bosch. Had about 10 years. Love that we can program it to come on at cheap rate at nighttime. Think it is a1200 spin and love it. When it gives up will definitely buy another Bo sch.

ThatBloodyWoman · 21/04/2014 12:31

My last one was a hotpoint and my current one is a bosch.

To be fair, my hotpoint was fantastic. It took a lot of hammer, lasted about 6/7 years, and washed well.

But when it finally died I went for a bosch as I've heard reasonably consistently good reports.

Do you not get stung with delivery prices though?

My last machine was a Hotpoint and it lasted me seven years of seriously heavy use and was great right up until it conked out. I could probably have got it repaired but instead I opted for a new one. Seriously thought about getting another Hotpoint but got a deal on a Bosch and it's also great, although I do sometimes have trouble with the controls, It does this weird thing sometimes when I can't get the cycle to start and it keeps flashing and bleeping, and I have to keep pressing buttons (not a clue what I'm doing) and eventually I get it to work.

I'd be happy with either to be honest. I've only had the Bosch a few months, so don't know about longevity.
