Anyone got an ikea expedit for shoe storage?

I desperately need shoe storage to tidy up my hall. We have a shoe rack but it looks cluttered and untidy and not everything fits on so is all over floor.
I am thinking of getting one of those ikea expedit shelving units as it would fit well and could hide shoes in the baskets. Does anyone have one of these for shoes and does it work well? Not sure what size to go for. I'm thinking just the 4 basket one as the 8 looks a bit huge. Would the 4 be big enough storage do you think?

Uterus, yes we do have space in the hall but only just and I still think it might look a bit ovewhelming when you open front door straight on to it. But I am being tempted by the thought of hiding mountains of crap from view. It's weird but when I've been to other mum friends houses they don't seem to have the hallway clutter crap problem. Their hallways are tidy and there's not a shoe, coat or bag in sight. Love to know where they put it all. Sometimes I think we just grow clutter in this house!

We had an expedit in our old house for storing shoes/bags/general crap. It did just become a dumping ground though. I think we had four spaces for shoes, (5of us and there was enough space for all our shoes) three baskets for hats/scarfs/arm bands/goggles/sun glasses etc and then one for storing bags. The idea worked well though, it's just as with a lot of things in my life, it just got clogged up with stuff needing sorting out and putting in its proper home. We now have an under stairs cupboard for the same sort of stuff and you can't move in it, it's a nightmare.
