Matchpot? Matt walls are a nightmare.

Iklboo · 14/08/2006 14:41

One of those Vanish/Wilco/JML magic sponge things? They're supposed to be really good for getting marks off walls without taking the paper off

welshmum · 14/08/2006 14:57

Thanks will call her now and attempt to lift her from slough of despond. They've been out of their house for months - subsidence etc and have only moved in last month.

another vote for Vanish magic sponge type thing - fantastic.

fairydust · 14/08/2006 15:10

VANISH SPONDE DIDN'T WORK ON OUR MATT WALLS IT BROUGHHT THE PAINT OFF AND MADE A RIGHT MESS SO BEWARE.

welshmum · 14/08/2006 15:11

I'm going to get one tomorrow too.
Our hall will finally see a paintbrush next week and my 2 are the prime age for vandalism so it's bound to happen.

well, yes, they work by taking the top layer of the paint off and exposing the clean surface underneath - as you say, you do have to be careful

welshmum · 14/08/2006 15:12

Bugger.

welshmum - get washable / scrubbable paint.
Doesn't come in quite such nice colours but is so worth it. Every time I see my scuffed hall and stairway I kick myself for thinking that the exact right shade of cream was more important than being able to wipe it.

welshmum · 14/08/2006 15:33

MrsBadger you speak great sense. I will check paint tonight - have only bought tester pots so far.
My dh has been dedicated to finding exact shade of off white/creamy/stone so will not be best pleased but I will share MN wisdom with him....

Was it wax crayon, because if so heat your iron up and then take a sheet of paper and put paper on the mark and iron over the top and the wax should melt and stick to the paper!

ledodgyrobespierre · 14/08/2006 16:25

Wd40 works a treat.

Panyanpickle77 · 14/08/2006 16:49

sugarsoap....available at all good diy shops

southeastastra · 14/08/2006 16:50

paint over it

SoupDragon · 14/08/2006 16:51

Repaint the entire house in at least a satin finish

MrsBadger · 14/08/2006 17:13

sugar soap can take the paint off too, as I found to my cost when I washed the walls of a rented house...

Panyanpickle77 · 14/08/2006 17:26

lol @ MrsBadger

fullmoonfiend · 14/08/2006 17:42

what about tyring Astonish (from Lekland) it's midly abrasive, but only like toothpaste, so might not do too much damamge..

cece · 14/08/2006 17:53

use Cif and a cloth or I heard toothpaste - but maybe that was just for pencil?

welshmum · 14/08/2006 18:01

These are great - will print out and pass on to newly painted friend.
About to tell dh limits of his paint odyssey
