I have white dress with big red flowers on (its nicer than it sounds!)

Should I...

a) Wash it with whites
b) wash it with reds
c) wash it in a mixed load
d) put it in on its own
e) dont wash it, just fabreeze it

Label says...

96% cotton
4% elastic

theres a little tub type thing that says 40 in it
a triangle with a cross through it
an iron with 2 dots on (Irrelvent cause i dont do ironing!)
A circle with a P in it
and a box with a circle and cross

Thanks

Is it the one from New Loook with the red tie bit ??

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 13/08/2006 13:46

Yup, thats the one.

right the label means wash it at 40 degrees, I would use a cotton wash and I would do it on it's own
it also says not to tumble dry,m thats the box with a circle and a cross in it.

so I would wash it on a 40 degree cottons wash, on it's own, hang it up to dry and iron on low if it needs it, (but I don't iron anything)

mummy2ashton · 13/08/2006 13:46

i don't know what the lables mean (i know im crap) so if it was me, i'd wash it with whites but at a low temperature. like at 30 degrees. on my machine there is a setting for "non fast colours" (ie colours that might run). that's what i do.

nutcracker · 13/08/2006 13:47

I washed mine on 40 with a few other lightly coloured things and it was fine.

Flamesparrow · 13/08/2006 13:48

First wash, I would wash it alone... then after that, probably a light colours one. I have 10,000 different wash loads though

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 13/08/2006 13:53

Maybe I will just shove it under the bed along with the other things that are fiddly, handwash or that im not going to wear for a while....

I am doing reds, and it seems that no one thinks it should go in with them, so it will have to wait for a little while.

Hmmm light colours..... I so need some new clothes! I have red, white and denim and thats it! Will have to go in on its own and I will have to not tell my mom cause she thinks its terrible to waste all the hot water and electric on one item. Sometimes I would have no clean knickers for days cause she was waiting for a full load to wash!

fussymummy · 13/08/2006 14:04

HI, the circle with a P in it means it can be dry cleaned!!
If your dress is 96% cotton and is mainly white and the little tub with 40 in it you'll be okay to wash it at 40 degrees.
If you're still unsure and you have a delicate wash on your machine then use that.
GOOD LUCK!!!

SoupDragon · 13/08/2006 14:09

I always assume that as it is mostly white, it gets washed as white as per the label. I base this on the assumption that they wouldn't give you a white dress with a coloured pattern that would run.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 13/08/2006 14:11

Its pretty even between red and white.

Also is it true that you cant wash a white load straight after a blue or red load?

can you tell ive only recently started doing my own washing

I'd be nervous about a white dress with red flowers, especially if it hadn't been massively expensive.

I'd probably handwash it.

Flamesparrow · 13/08/2006 14:20

I've made that assumption before SD with those stupid kids tops with those opposing dark/light sleeve/body combos ... manky bloody tops.

I think your whites after blue/red load is pure gibberish though. I am a colour run fanatic and have never heard of it, or had a problem.

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 13/08/2006 18:18

For future reference, you can buy a box of Colour Catchers from the stain remover shelf in the supermarket. They are little sheets that stop colours running so are great for first time washes on confusing items like that.

And here's something else that might be helpful for future
a pic of a Lakeland magnet which shows what all the symbols mean.
