Best way to clean fabric IKEA sofas?

We've got a grey Karlanda IKEA sofa and it looks like a wreck! We've only had it for about a year. How do we clean it? I'm concerned because my mum had a fabric sofa with removable covers that she had cleand and when it came to putting the covers back on they had shrunk!

Was it a KArlanda LIZS? The fabric is a thick weave

I've just had a look at the label and it says dry clean only - did yours? Dry cleaning all of the sofa would be tres expensivo!

I once went to try to buy the foam upholstery cleaner that Ikea used to sell

and the woman said that they didn't have it any more but they just used soapy water instore

worth trying on a small area first?

shoobaloo - we've got a Karlanda - have washed the covers a few times - only slight shrinkage - can still get them back on the cushions fine

Hi CFG - I know that some of the covers are made of diff types of material - did yours say you could only dry clean it too?

yep. and washing doesn't seem to have done any damage - we've washed them a couple of times. 1001 stain remover hasn't done them the world of good though
