Hi I wonder if anyone can help. We have recently moved into a new house and my eldest ds is getting constantly bitten. I'm pretty sure it's flea bites. The previous owners had a cat.

How can I treat them. I presume they are in the carpet. I have 3 ds and my youngest is 9 months so I need something that's safe to use. We don't have the option of being able to stay somewhere else

Could be molloscum perhaps? I agree it doesn't sound like fleas.

Btw when our cat got fleas they mainly bit me and left dh alone. I am a walking insect smorgasbord it would appear Hmm

Both the ds have had chicken pox. I can't see anything in the bed or around where they sleep. Grr I may have to take him to the doctors then I was sure I knew what it was. It is strange as I would have thought more than one of the 5 of us in the house would have the same.

If he was under 2 when he had cp then he may not have developed immunity to it that time.

If you have got fleas you will know about it (eventually!) we had these after we moved into our first flat - the previous owners had a cat. First noticed the odd one jumping around on the sofa & as the weeks went on they got worse. When I got up in the morning by the time I got to the bathroom there would be 4 or 5 fleas over my feet/legs.

All the shop bought insecticides were rubbish - in the end it took 2 visits from the council to get rid of them. I would give you local council's pest control dept a call & see what they recommend.

If it's fleas then Indorex is fine. I'm a vet. Indorex, Acclaim, Nuvan Staykill or RIP flea are all basically the same (permethrin + insect growth regulator) and any of them will work. There is a stage of the life cycle where the flea larvae pupate - like a caterpillar in a chrysalis - and they can either sit dormant in this state or complete the cycle in 3 weeks. Moving into a new property will encourage the pupae to hatch but you need to maximise this as none of the treatments will penetrate the pupae. Warmth, humidity and vibration all encourage hatching, so central heating on, bowl of water on the radiators to increase humidity, Hoover first, then spray the whole house once properly, concentrating round skirting boards and underneath heavy furniture. Chuck all bedding on a 60 degree wash.
You need to exclude the children from the room being treated and air it for a little while after treatment. Do downstairs one evening when they are in bed and bedrooms the following morning once they are up and out.
Good luck.
