Wax for a wooden table

We have inherited a wooden table which needs re waxing.

Any ideas?
I've seen an Annie Sloane Soft wax which looks pretty good for £8.85.

I know nothing about this kind of thing but I need to get this table water proofed!

It's a kitchen table if that makes any difference?

I've always used Antiquax which has a clear matt cover. My mum always used Briwax. Is it pine? Or Oak? If the latter I've used an oil instead.

Briwax is great on furniture but it isn't waterproof - water marks will show up easily.

Osmo do some excellent oils & waxes which are much better for tables - have a look at the website.

Varnish will provide better waterproofing but I've never used a matt one before (I don't like shiny or satin finishes!)
