What is in your conservatory and what do you use the room for?

The house we want to buy has a conservatory and we are not sure whether to use it as a playroom or not.

We have a playroom at the moment and I like the fact I can shut the door on hideous pink plastic.

Do you use it for a dining room?

Or is it just full of that weird straw type furniture and dusty??

mine has lead a varied life since it was built 5 yrs ago.

Used to sit in it a lot in the early days, then it got 'boyed'.

A scaletrix appeared in it at Christmas and has never left. A giant telescope has also found its way in there alng with various star-gazing paraphenalia.

The clothes airer has also taken up residence

Recently it was home to 8 tomato plants, but they have braved the great outdoors in the last few weeks.

Been too hot to sit in there this summer, but I guess it will have a clear out in the autumn. ( dunno where the telescope is going though)

Have nice modern white sofa and rocking-chair.

Bar at one end with coloured lights and two stools. TV on wall bracket.

exercise machine. Plants.

DH uses it a lot for exercising or watching football with a pint of beer in front of him.

Carlk · 03/08/2006 11:56

Dining table and chairs
DD's toys, play house etc.
It's use mainly as a play room

Bugsy2 · 03/08/2006 12:01

Mine is alongside the kitchen & is our breakfast/dining room. Was only just bearable in the heat of the last couple of weeks, but part of the problem is that I haven't had blinds fitted.
Has the conservatory got a glass or plastic roof OO? If it is plastic, then you might find it costs a fortune to heat in the winter.

Our is a dinning room,
Play room,
Junk room and at the moment the tumble dryer is out there and the travil cot.

Thanks folks

We are in a lovely old terrace house at the mo but has no garden

Have to move to modern(er) semi to get the room we want and garden

Just not sure what to do with the conservatory as most of my friends seem to have a formation of wicker and not a lot else

Not sure of roof, will have to investigate that one, has radiator though.

Downstairs has sitting room then open plan kitchen/diner then conservatory.

So diner bit could be playroom...

I HATE TOYS!

mine has a sofa, beech unit with tv on it and occassionally an airer with washing on it!

Sparkler1 · 03/08/2006 21:27

oooooooooh I'd love a conservatory

bettythebuilder · 03/08/2006 21:35

lol sparkler1

Our conservatory is off the living room, and is just an extension of living area really - comfy chairs and a gazzillion toys.
I love sitting in it, though - especially on sunny days in winter - it helps get me through the dark winter months!

Crackle · 03/08/2006 21:58

We had Solar inserts installed today into our sunroom roof. What an amazing difference. No glare at all and the heat cut right down to warm and bareable instead of blistering. We simply could not use the room before as it was so bright and flippin hot.

Tomorrow, I will make it a reading room. Bliss

Katymac · 03/08/2006 21:59

Wow Crackle how much did that cost?

Blossomhill · 03/08/2006 22:00

Only just had ours built and we use it as a second living area.

We have a nice wicker set and that's about it at the moment. Need to save up to but flat screen tv.

Today I stood and ironed in there for 3 hours and have piles of clothes ironed, ready to be put away!

Blossomhill · 03/08/2006 22:01

Forgot to say it comes off of our kitchen/diner

Whizzz · 03/08/2006 22:11

Noooo straw furniture. Ours is lovely, has 2 comfy modern sofas in in & stereo and is used (mostly by me) for chilling, having friends round and as my 'studio' for all my craft bits & pieces. It's brill !!

Sparkler1 · 04/08/2006 23:31

bettythebuilder - sorry was too good to resist a posting on this thread

cece · 04/08/2006 23:32

Sofa, sideboard, toys. Use it as a playroom.

bettythebuilder · 04/08/2006 23:40

Sparkler1, I was thinking "has anyone seen sparkler on this thread...oooooh, I'd love to see sparkler on this thread..."

psychomum5 · 04/08/2006 23:45

mine is filled with toys, and also our freeezer, and also double as my washing room as when it is raining I can dry stuff in there.

altho won't be staying that way....

once we get our money organised it is going to be rebuilt and made into study come lounge area for the children, so they can have friends round and go in there instead of with us, or in the bedrooms. also, as only our eldest has her own room, it will mean that the sharing rooms problem clashing with friends being here should be an issue.

MrsBadger · 06/08/2006 15:23

ours is ugly, north-facing and bigger than the remaining bit of garden - in fact I shall bump my recent thread asking how to dismantle the wretched object.

at the moment it contains the recycling box, the patio chairs and a couple of old bookcases with things like secateurs and flowerpots on, as it's too cold to use in winter and too hot in summer, and the washing doesn't dry well in there either, just gets all steamed up.

can't wait to get rid of the blasted thing!

mammyjo · 06/08/2006 16:22

Mine is a playroom and its the best thing I ever did!! All the toys get chucked back in there in the evening and my lounge is an adult space again. Also has the advantage of shutting the door and not having to look constantly at a mountain of toys!!

pesme · 06/08/2006 16:26

what is with the whicker furniture? why is it acceptable in a conservatory? is the eighties fabric cushion set mandetory as well?
