Motivation needed for new routine

Since I've had ds (15months) I've 'let things go'.
My house is hardly ever tidy. I never used to have the kind of friends who just drop in but now I do(other local mums).
I am always embarassed as the living room is nearly always untidy. Its not dirty, just messy.
Theirs never are. I know 2 of them have cleaners but not the others.
The bedrooms are messy, the kitchen is messy, my laundry is disorganised and hardly ever put away. I haven't cleaned my cupboards, windows, doors in ages and as for my oven, well the less said about that the better.
Can some one please help me with a weekly/daily routine to get me back on track as I hate living like this?. Thanks

You could try Flylady - a bit American, and if you subscribe to the emails you do get a lot of them, but it can give you a nudge in the right direction. Works for some people.

Tyme

You need to start with a simple routine and stick to it. For example (I'm assuming you are a full time mother)

Monday - wash and hang out clothes by 10pm. Do something with DS (every day). Give him his lunch and then put him down for his nap. Then wash up dishes and wipe down kitchen surfaces (do this every day). Do something for you before getting DS up. Play with him, give him his dinner and at same time prepare evening meal (do every day). After he has gone to bed, tidy the living room, wipe down kitchen then spend time with DP (do every evening).

Tuesday - get up early, iron clothes from previous day and put away. Spend time with DS etc. Dust and tidy while he is napping.

Wednesday - more laundry and vacuum living room

Thurs - iron

Friday vacuum whole house

Sat - Laundry if required. Thorough clean of kitchen and bathroom and tidy whole house in morning. Spend time as family in afternoon.
Sun - free day apart from ironing.

If possible give DP a chore that he is responsible for e.g. cleaning kitchen/bathroom etc.

Good luck!

Thanks. I just looked at flylady and I think its really good. Its the kind of thing I need ie a list of things to do every day.
Its really motivated me and I've just cleaned, vacuumed and dusted the lounge, cleaned the kitchen (not the oven though!), vacuumed hall and stairs and cleaned the front door and porch (that was flyladys current flyzone!)
I managed to do all this as dh is at home today and took ds out for a couple of hours.
He was v.impressed when he got back!
Speedymama, I think doing the cleaning in the evening will help a lot but I usually just want to put my feet up and watch tv! I just have to get off my butt and do it.
Dh is good and will do laundry, vacuum and clean bathroom on weekends but he works long hours and really doesn't like coming home to a mess. Neither of us were messy people. Besides, I think its better he spends some time with ds instead.

Glad it helped - I like her attitude. The only problem I find with the emails (apart from the fact that I ignore a lot of them) is that because it's american, they come through at strange times in the UK due to the time difference. But you can just work through them, or do the ones you fancy, and they're there to remind you.

Tyme · 02/08/2006 15:44

I think I would ignore emails too so I haven't signed up for it but I have printed off her routine and plans and will just refer to those and log onto the website.
I've just realised that all that cleaning actually took me less than 1.5hrs!

How you getting on with flylady tyme?

Tyme · 06/08/2006 13:27

Hi Pecka.
Well, so good so far. I just find that now that I have specific things to do every day, I can be more organised and keep on top of things.
I love her 'shine your sink' concept. Cleaning the kitchen before going to bed has made a big difference. I also tidy the lounge then too. I have made myself do it every night even if I've been really tired. Dh has been helping too and it only takes 10 mins but has made a world of difference.
I do the 'swish and swipe' of the bathroom everyday and we've agreed that dh does the thorough bathroom cleaning every Sat.
I can say that I wouldn't have been embarassed if visitors turned up and I don't stay in because the house is too messy and I need to clean up iykwim.
I still have a lot to do eg doors, cupboards, laundry pile, oven but I'm getting there.
Do you follow flylady?
If not, I would def recommend it.

tortoise · 06/08/2006 16:10

Give him a slap with em when he gets back!

shazronnie · 06/08/2006 17:50

clean sink, e mail for day 2 tells me i must wear (lace up) shoes all day.

Hmm; how will that make my house tidy?

Quootiepie · 06/08/2006 17:55

You have to read the reason... you cant have a tidy lovely house unless you dress as it makes you more assertive etc. and ready for anything. You have to FLY- Finally Love Yourself! Getting dressed will be an experience for me... I live in PJs

tortoise · 06/08/2006 17:57

I doubt i will go as far as shoes! Not sure i see the point and we dont wear shoes indoors.

Quootiepie · 06/08/2006 17:58

nor me... marks the carpet... but I might push the boat out to wearing slippers

tortoise · 06/08/2006 17:59
